Apparently the 3,000 tickets for the trip to Chelsea in the Premier League have sold out, that is a clear message to the club who bizarrely in the past few seasons when fans were allowed only took reduced allocations.
I wonder if it will also mean that the club will look to take a full allocation for the League cup game there in a months time. |  |

Yes, it's a weird one that. One of the most popular away games of the season and the club took the smallest allocation they could get and it always sold out immediately. I don't really understand why they did that, especially as they were taking bigger allocations for games much farther away, but at least they are showing some common sense and consideration for our fans this year. It is penny pinching but the truth is that the club can't afford to pay for tickets that aren't sold they either have to take around 1,000 or around 3,000 at most games, so for Chelsea the risk is that if we took the 3,000 allocation but sold only 2,000, potentially that is £30,000 we owe Chelsea.
Some clubs are more flexible than other hence it seems strange why we would take 3,000 at say Aston Villa but not at Chelsea.
Chelsea will of course prefer to sell those 2,000 extra tickets to there own fans at £50 a pop and also reap the benefits of selling merchandise etc, so for them if they can get us to take only 1,000 tickets, they are potentially making another £40k profit on the game, over a season it all adds up.
It sort of dispels the theory that fans don't matter, Chelsea and the other big clubs are still keen to sell the seats at the full whack rather than the £30 away cap and not throw money away | |

As Nick says, they can charge home fans more for tickets so clubs that regularly sell out try to keep away allocations to the absolute minimum the rules permit. Chelsea are the last of the big clubs not to either expand their existing stadium or move to a bigger one. They applied for the Battersea Power Station site but were turned down in favour of luxury flats for celebrities like Elton John and Sting. | |

All the London games sell out, 3000 Saints fans and always have. It was ridiculous when Saints started taking smaller allocations. Penny pinching yes, but there was no need. Look how we have sold 3200 tickets in a week. Villa away, Leicester away, Wolves away are also popular ones and we should take the full allocation for all those games. But at least Saints have learnt and we will be taking a full 3000 following. It also is more backing for the team and loud in the stadium. |  |

Think the League Cup is 10% away allocation (think it used to be 15%), so that's around 4100.
Shed End holds 6800, but when other teams have played there in Cup matches, they've had the whole end (ie Man Utd and others), maybe as end can't be split anymore than the 3000 PL rules?
So 6800 would be good, the ticket prices will probably be cheaper, and I think we'd sell them like a few years back when we took that many to Arsenal in the Cup for an evening game.

A few thousand here and there add up yes , so how do you explain the refund of 30,000 tickets for the Man United game at much more than the £30 cap for away tickets. That would total the full extra allocation for every away game this season.

If there was a safety issue, a bomb scare or whatever, the game would have to be delayed. Sky probably don't like it, as it puts all their programmes out of schedule but surely there could have been a 15 minute delay, and just not had the interviews at the end of the game. It was a complete c@ck up from Saints, which to be fair they admitted to. Even the fans that couldn't get in via the scanner, could have just been checked at the big double gates by stewards. Such a loss of unnecessary money from Saints. As Nick says when he encourages us to spend in the shop, every penny counts. But then Saints did that! The game could have been delayed, the fans could have just been let in manually by stewards checking their ticket. But anyway there we are, it's done I suppose. | |
