What an exciting game at Selhurst Park. Every time Palace get the ball, they play it forwards with speed. No sideways or backwards passing at all. It's not rocket science. Old school get the ball forward to the strikers. The place is loud, proper traditional stadium.

Here's another one not so long ago, under Ralph. Can only dream of results like that now. Not sure why you wouldn't look back on results like that fondly and be so against a manager that was in charge at the time. It's been terrible since. Ralph proved he could set the team up to win. They then sold all his best players and the remaining ones downed tools because they wanted another manager. Look how that worked out.

It's almost depressing when you think where we are now

It really is. Apparently I'm not allowed the opinion that those were good times under a certain Ralph. Yes, it went sour, but Ralph wasn't properly backed, he got blamed and now we are down. At least Ralph could win games, some of them very exciting and full of energy and against the top clubs.

jones for all his faults probably wanted to play forward quickly but seeing the the players at his disposal and the ineptitude of selles behind him in the dugout probably didnt have a chance in hell

Yeah we had good times under Ralph and it's true he should have been backed more, but I think part of the issue was that he lost his fire. He lost his enthusiasm and that possibly spoiled his relationship with the players. When he started talking about how he would see his contract out and that would be his last job in management, then it was clear his heart wasn't in it.

The bottom line is that he should have been sacked last summer - form in the second half of last season was much the same as this season - and if he had been sacked in the summer, we'd have had a good choice of managers who wanted to take us on.

It's all in the past now but one of the lessons is to cut your losses in the summer. Don't wait to give the manager another chance in the new season. FFS let's make sure we apply that lesson to Selles.

And he lost Danny Rohl.

Yes, and because it has been even worse since he left, it shows that other things, other than the manager, are very wrong at the club. The board, owners, players seem to be getting off Scott free. The players who downed tools because Jones slated them in public (and they deserved it right?), the players who downed tools in Ralph's last few games because they didn't like having to run, players who lost to Grimsby, the players who didn't even break sweat in vital games in many must win games, seem to be excused as if these grown men on 100 grand a week can't tackle, can't defend, can't shoot from 2 yards or be motivated for massive games.

I'm sure Selles doesn't say "pass sideways and backwards, don't tackle and don't shoot, and dribble soft little crosses in, in our must win game today". And even if he did, the players could still aggressively get forward and ignore him in order to win the game and prove the boss wrong. They are so pathetic and weak. The fans, not many, but there were still some fans clapping the players after 2 wins in what feels like 10 years, after the Bournemouth game. This view that it's the Manager's fault is making the players think they have an excuse any can get away with playing like idiots.

Or there was Palace under Vieira who didn't have single shot on target for more than 3 games ? Even we can beat that !!

Or the Palace that didn't win a single game in January, February or March ? Even we can beat that !!

Or the Palace that came to St Marys the other week and did a job on us. Sat back, soaked up the pressure, waited for our mistakes, punished us, scored 2 goals with their only 2 shots on target, then passed the ball around at ease and defended in numbers, invited us to break them down, but as is usually the case, we failed miserably.

BTW - it may be an old traditional stadium, but Selhurst Park is a shit hole. The away end / side not only has pillars but also a low roof, so the view is poor, especially if you are sat near the back, that small end behind the goal is awful, as is the stand that houses the dugouts. Needs massive Ground Improvements !!

It's one of the best atmospheres though. They might be shiny and symmetrical, but it's silent at most other PL grounds.
