I can’t help but feel that whilst it was a great day out it may very well turn out to have been a hindrance to our opportunity to return to the top flight.
In the game before against Bristol City I thought we weren’t 100% at it and last night against Ipswich the players looked extremely tired physically toward the end.
Had we managed to turn those two draws into wins we would be going to Preston on Saturday fully in the box seat needing a win to return to where the proper money is.

W. Still cost us promotion through being inept.
Though, having said that, the players looked like they were avoiding injury versus Bristol and were evidently tired last night. We’d have had a good chance at top 2 had this not been the case.
But it was a semi final and the FA Cup means more than this league, so I’m glad we went for it. |  | | |

The squad wasn't good enough in key areas in the first half of the season
- weak goalkeeper
- no real centre forward (apart form when Stewart got fit and we did well for a couple of games before he got injured again)
- not enough height or fit full backs, so we played 3 CBs (something both managers agreed on and only changed with the January arrivals)
- weak in central midfield because Downes and Charles were out for extended periods, Jander was in and out and Bragg not even a player yet.
Tonda is great but he's not a miracle worker. If we had the same squad now as we started with, we'd be mid table now. | | | |

Contemplating our navel on how and why we got here is a waste of time. All that matters is that we have (hopefully) three games left to reach the Premier League. Squeaky bum games but easily within our capability.
I for one do not think for one minute that Championship and a big cup run is more "fun".

I would have taken winning the FA Cup over promotion. But had I known we would go out in the semis, I probably would have chosen going up instead, as all that effort in the cup, only to go out anyway, arguably could have cost us a few points in the league due to tiredness etc. Our fantastic cup run, perhaps came at the wrong time (i.e. when trying to get automatic promotion with a championship squad).
