Bit of a PR gaff, driven by THB still not confirmed as leaving when Schlotterbeck was signed. Seems as if Wood is actually going to be THB replacement as the permanent fixture on the right with Schlotterbeck and Stephens sharing the left centre back and leadership role. I guess Quashie has gone for game time after being fourth choice for much of last year and this lad is here to fill that role. Shame about the two experienced options but better than the young 18 year old Italian lad who would have been a big risk. | | | |

Zach Abbott is definitely one for the future and despite having played in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup, (a few times) he is still very inexperienced and still learning. He may well become as good as THB but it won't be this season.
Schlotterbeck looks like the central defender we have been missing but Jack Stephens looks like he hasn't been sidelined yet and Wood, who has good days and bad days, hasn't shown that he's first choice for a starting place.
Yes, its a shame that the 2 experienced CB's that we were in for didn't want to come to St, Mary's but as a few here have pointed out we are a Championship team not a Premier League team | | | |

Jack is back up, BUT I can see Zack Abbot coming on a lot for game time too, especially when we're a couple of goals up. Zack could well be in our main pairing come the end of the season. I think it's a case that all three need game time to develop so they are sent out to lower league team in the hope that they will play. Very often it seems these plans don't come to fruition and they remain third or fourth choice. Wouldn't be surprised to see Quarshie back in January and Abbott return to Forest as neither had enough game time. | | | |

Taking on a 20 year old centre back (of all positions) who has made a total of 3 league appearances, is a risk. If there's a chance of developing a talent for the future, then the risk night be worth it. But we don't have that option here. He's just signed a new 4 year deal at Forest and we have no option to buy. I think we're taking a lot of risk for not much benefit here. Fingers crossed the risk pays off. | | | |
