Rugby is a game that has never appealed to me, I have never seen a game live and I think the only one I have watched on tv was the one where they won the world cup about 20 years ago

The best live game for atmosphere in any sport is the annual Army v Navy at Twickenham. It is not well known outside the Forces but every year over 85,000 turn up to watch what is a surprisingly good fiercely contested game and 12 hours solid drinking. There is nowhere a more bawdy, but good natured partisan crowd of matelots, bootnecks and pongos and there are always incidents that still make me laugh years later. The day starts at around 8am when coaches start descending on FLeet Services - army from the west and Navy from the south but instead of a brawl it is just a wild fancy dress party - all watched by confused folk with no idea what's going on. All the pubs are open, all welcoming, never any trouble, everyone for one day is a mate except during the game itself. It's the one place where you can turn to the person pissing next to you in the gents and realise it's a good looking girl with a Go Navy T shirt. If only I was 30 years younger. It's not on until next April but I've got to defend the best winter sport on earth.
