What do people see in Kalvin Phillips, apart from his silly hair style? I don't think I've ever seen a player who passes sideways and backwards more than he does and that's probably because on the rare occasion he's tried to pass the ball forwards, he's gifted it to an opposition player. Previous team success was enabled by soft opponents in the groups but unable to survive when seriously tested. Remember the awful penalties debacle.
