| Oriol Romeu on 08:13 - Jan 13 with 2110 views | SaintNick | Romeu leaving was an agreed thing by both sides, the club knew they had a gem in Lavia and that Oriol was approaching the twilight of his career. Those that say it was a mistake to let him go are wide of the mark, the only problem has been Lavia’s injury keeping him out | |

Totally Get Oriel wanting to return to Spain, been a excellent servant and great pro and player so he should have been granted whatever he wanted personally However its another example of Saints selling before having a ready replacement, yes Lavia looks good but again young, now injured so we are once again left without adequate cover in a key position

Romeu played with Lavia at Spurs on the opening day so they had their ready replacement already at the club

Far more to it than that. Oriol leaving has had a highly negative impact on Ward-Prowse’s form, which is one of the main reasons we are bottom of the League. The goals of JWP and Broja were key to us staying up last season, and nobody has stepped up to get those goals from those two players that we are now missing. Far too simplistic to just compare Lavia with Romeu in isolation. If we are relegated, Oriol leaving will be one of the main reasons.

Have to agree with this . If and when lavia got injured , subbed, needed a rest or tatics we needed someone to either come in , on or come in if if we wanted to change tatics. If we had kept Romeu then I’m certian would have had a couple more points . It is after all meant to be a squad game . Having said that I thought Diallo had his best game for us Wednesday. Though so far he’s proven he can’t reach those levels on a regular basis .
| Oriol Romeu on 19:47 - Jan 13 with 1658 views | Scoot | Congratulations to oreal. He earned his move. Over 80 yellow cards yet not one red. He always gave it everything. We may need a romeou now but there comes a time when you have to let the lad try something new. He will always have us in his heart like we will him. It's not about letting our older players go, it's about who we replace them with. Lavia has lived up to that bar injuries. Our problem seems to be that the squad is a sea that's wide but shallow. We have players but the majority are at the start of their career. They do need some old heads around but that's not OR responsibility its the management's. We have had a few players that have given us there best years & I'm grateful for that. JWP springs to mind yet he gets stick from time to time. Sometimes it's hard to win with fans because we're a fickle bread. We see the last result, the next game & attitude of the player. OR never let us down, not once. He always gave it his all. I for one was pleased he was our player & think we could easily be in a worse place without him. He's gone home and to be fair who could begrudge him that. Its not as if he's gone chasing a pay day or a trophy Good luck to the man | |
