Saints set to sign former Middlesbrough keeper Joe Lumley on 10:24 - Aug 4 with 3052 views | Ifonly | So this means no signing of a proper no 1. Lumley in as a cheap option at 3rd choice behind Bazunu and McCarthy. It seems he's not much good, but If those 2 carry on like they have been doing then maybe Lumley will find himself no 1.

Perhaps if we judge Bazunu on playing at a lower level in the Championship behind a more solid defence we might find he is quite good

He’s not looked good in the preseason friendlies against poor opposition . When did he last keep a clean sheet

I agree he was constantly left exposed last season, but I don't think the "level" makes much difference with a keeper. It certainly does with every other position, but a keeper is not competing directly with the opposition in the same way. A keeper is not competing against opposition players, he is competing against shots and crosses. The same difficulty of shot can come at you from a PL player or a league 2 player. A keeper can drop a cross from a league 2 player just as easily as a cross from a PL player. Bad positioning is bad positioning whoever the opposition. The only real difference is that, once the keeper has made a mistake, it will be pounced on faster by a PL player. I agree about the need for a solid defence but will we have one this year? As you've said elsewhere, Bazunu is the right choice in the RM system because he can play with his feet. But I think he needs confidence and if we start giving silly goals away it could easily knock him back. Let's hope not.

Surprisingly he has some - but not many !! Can think of a few..... Manc City (H) in the league cup - we won 2-0 League - 1-0 wins away to Chelsea and Bournemouth, 1-0 win at home to Leicester and a 0-0 away to Man U
