![]() Friday, 1st Apr 2011 23:09 South Coast neighbours Bournemouth did Saints a big favour. A week or so ago Peterborough United looked the biggest challenge to Saints hope for promotion but the Cherries put a big dent in their challenge when they clawed themselves back from the dead to hold them to a 3-3 draw. In truth the game looked dead and buried for the cherries when they found themselves 2-0 down after only 15 minutes due to sloppy defending, ten minutes before half time they thought they were back in in when the deficit was halved, but another poor piece of defending saw Posh go into the break 3-1 up. Thats the way it stayed till 19 minutes to go when Steve Fletcher pulled a goal back but despite a spirited performance it looked like the home side would shade all three points till a strike 2 minutes into injury time. From a Saints point of view the goal was priceless in that it now leaves Peterborough only two points ahead of us and we have three games in hand, but more than that, arch home win side Posh now only hav three left at home and four on the road, they are fast running out of games as the pendulum swings in Huddersfield's favour once again. But more to the point Peterborough go into the fianl run in with a keeper whose confidence is shot to pieces, there is no doubt that Joe Lewis is quality, but that fact is he was at fault for two of the Bournemouth goals including the last gasp point saver which he let squirm under him from ashot he really should have saved, add this to the gift that he gave MK Dons and its not a good situation for Peterborough to be in given how fragile their defence is anyway. This result gives Saints a good cvhance to make ground by beating MK Dons, three points against Franchise FC followed by three against Charlton will see Saints firmly in the driving seat and Huddersfield know they need to go to Tranmere and win on Saturdaygiven the week coming up. Peterborough go to Dagenham on Tuesday knowing that if Saints do take a six point maximum at home this week then anything less than a win will virtually kill off their promotion challenge and next weekend its Huddersield V Peterborough. Part one of this weekend had seen the pendulum swing in Saints favour, they now need to make sure this opportunity is not wasted.
