Danny Rohl Might Not Be Arriving At Southampton After All Monday, 24th Mar 2025 13:12 The Sheffield media feels that Danny Rohl joining Saints is done and dusted, but even if we agree a deal with Sheffield Wednesday, Rohl might not actually arrive at St Mary's given the Owl's track record of sending things South. Sheffield Wednesday are due to host Oxford United in April and were due to receive 4,000 tickets for their supporters to attend the game at Hillsborough, but as the BBC have been reporting, those tickets did not arrive at the Kassam Stadium. Instead someone in the Sheffield Wednesday ticket office sent them to Oxford City FC who currently play in the National League North. In a message on X, Oxford City thanked Sheffield Wednesday for the surprise delivery, and joked that they would forward them on to the right address. "A big thank you to Sheffield Wednesday for the delivery of 4,000 tickets for your game vs Oxford United." It included a winking face emoji for the "intern at the Hillsborough ticket office," adding: "Don't worry, we've all been there!" It also said "don't panic" to Oxford United fans, promising to deliver the tickets "after lunch". This may be funny for those who are not Oxford Fans, but it could be no laughing matter for Southampton supporters come the summer. We are of course strongly linked with the Owls current manager Danny Rohl, he is expected to be announced as Saints manager as soon as we are officially out of the Premier League and into the Championship, thus reducing the compensation package down substantially. But when we have agreed a price for Rohl in the summer, can we now trust Sheffield Wednesday to actually send us the goods. It seems not and one of our local clubs could find themselves taking delivery of a new manager that they hadn't ordered. Many of us have experienced ordering something online and then finding that either the article isn't sent, or that it is sent to the wrong address with a photo of a front door we don't recognise, or that the delivery driver just dumps it on the doorstep and worse it gets stolen by a passer by. Sport Republic have been chastised for buying players on the cheap lately, given this is the case, they are not going to send a private plane or even a taxi to pick up Danny, they are going to opt for the postal option and not even next day delivery at that. Can we trust them to perhaps pay £2.50 on top to have Rohl's delivery tracked ? Many would say no, but surely we would not mess around with such a valuable package as a new manager, I would hope not, for just that little extra we can see when Sheffield Wednesday have dropped Rohl off at the depot, see when he is despatched to a local depot for delivery and then receive a text giving us a 2 hour time slot for his expected delivery, so we can make sure that someone is in St Mary's to sign for him. It would not be great if our new manager had to spend his first two days in Southampton stuck in a warehouse in Nursling, because the delivery driver had not bothered knocking on St Mary's door and just thrust a card through the letterbox before anyone could get to the door. So the odds of Danny Rohl becoming Saints manager are still shortening, but so are his chances of actually being here for the start of 2025/26 season, given Sheffield Wednesday's record of sending things through the post.
