Southampton To Play £100 Million Hardball With Manchester City & Spurs Wednesday, 26th Mar 2025 12:15 Saints youngster Tyler Dibling is being linked with a move away from St Mary's, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur & even Manchester United, Chelsea & Bayen Munich have all been linked, but latest stories in the media suggest that Saints are in no mood to let him go cheaply.
Tyler Dibling is a very grounded young man and so are his parents judging by the decision they took just 3 years ago, when they asked Chelsea to release Dibling from his earlier decision to join the Stamford Bridge club so that he could return to Southampton, as they felt that his career path would be better followed with that route, where he would have a realistic chance of getting into the first team.
It is believed that Tyler Dibling has wanted to sign a new deal at St Mary's for the past few months, but has been prevented from doing so by his agents.
Saints weren't seeking to extend his contract, merely to increase his wages, his current deal expires in July 2026, but has an option for an extra year if Saints should wish to do so, so effectively he is tied to the club until the summer of 2027.

Therefore with the new deal unsigned and his agents playing hardball, it seems Southampton are now preparing to play hardball themselves in the summer as his German agents push to get him signed up for a big club and therefore earning them a big commission.
That is according to express.co.uk who are reporting that Southampton have named their price and it is £100 million.
That is some fee and I would be surprised if Saints could achieve it, but it is a good starting price to work from for a club who have a player with two years still left on his contract.
At the moment it seems that his agents are briefing the media to link him with every big club in the UK & Europe to try and get him a move that will make them money, but that could well backfire given Dibling & his parents stance on putting his career first and making money second.

That is an alien concept to most football agents and indeed young talents, Tyler will perhaps look at Jimmy Jay Morgan who left Saints in the summer of 2022 alongside him, both with the promise of a guaranteed professional contract at the age of 17.
Dibling decided Chelsea was not the best for him, even with the guaranteed contract while Morgan preferred the money route to the bank with Chelsea.
Now Morgan has joined Gillingham in League two on loan and he is struggling to get a game there, out of 13 possible games, he has started just 7 with another 4 off the bench, he has scored just once , that a late consolation in a 3-1 defeat at Newport County in front of just 3,396 people.
So the summer could be pretty interesting for Saints and in many way they are in a no lose situation, if Tyler Dibling opts to stay or our valuation, albeit a more realistic one is reached and he leaves, we will still be in a strong position to challenge for promotion.

Seems to me the best thing for Tyler Dibling to do would be to change his agent in the summer and see if he can find one that has any ethics and will actually put the player’s best interests first and foremost and not their own interests (making money out of the player) ahead of the player’s welfare. The wrong move could ruin the player all for the sake of a mega payday for an agent / agency who could not give a damn about their client’s long term future, all they are interested in is the money.

Historically, very few deals where Saints have had to sell the " Crown Jewels" have been qquite so favourable in the end and often we drew the short straw (especially with Spurs). Tyler Dibling's potential will demand the best deal for both Saints and the player, as this is a once-in-a-decade type deal for Saints and they shouldn't be afraid to go for bust. It's hard to judge TD right now, but the history of the young Bellingham and Sancho who grew into their successful roles with bigger clubs who were prepared to bring the player on steadily and not go for glory in their first season. Clubs who have (and think nothing of) paying out £100 mill. for big talents understand that and must decide whether "to stick or twist" and this may turn out into a Euro auction, but in reality we are unlikely to get the whole sum in cash, and such a deal would likely be a cash + player type arrangement, provided WE get the right player(s) deal in part ex. Clearly, Dibling WILL move on, and Saints are right to try and get the best deal we can, especially as we will have to re-think the entire squad personnel before the start of next season, especially the manager and those deals won't come cheap either.

I think it’s worth more than 100m for us to be promoted back to VAR hell, so it’s just as much about how much we gain with him in the team next year, same with Fernandes. If we are promoted again next year and they wanted to leave, we’d still get a substantial sum for each because of bidding wars. We are going to let Rambo move on and with Sugawara, Bednarek having interest for another 20 million between them to make 40-45 already. Then the likes of Sulemana and Onuachu who might bring in a few more quid and THB, etc, we’ve got 80 million or so there.. So I totally get why we say 100m for our best asset, we won’t need the money.

If any of our purchases in the last year, particularly Sugawara,Wellington and Fernandez don't have a relegation release then they should be made to stay for at least one year.

"IF", we were to get £100m for Tyler, that would cover the cost of relegation and no other players would "need" to be sold, so we could play hardball with anyone who comes knocking thinking they can plunder our squad on the cheap

Express website eh? Aren't they the ones always screaming about ten inches of snow and incredible heatwaves that never materialise. Likewise 100m for Dibling. The rich clubs aren't that stupid. We should bite off the hand that offers 50m though. He is a prospect for the future, possibly, but cashing in on him is a no-brainer in my view: I reckon he would struggle with what passes for 'tackles' in the second division next year and the lack of protection from refs who are even worse than the first division ones. The big problem is that the 50m would be going to a bunch of people who cannot be trusted to spend it wisely!

I think it will be hard for Tyler to shine in the crunching tackle regime that is often the Championship and his advisers could be right in thinking the EPL is the place for their boy because there he's less likely to have his glossy skills kicked out of him, especially in a better team than he's playing now. Agreed only one TD in a generation is unearthed at Saints and I believe the club should cash in for as much as they can get and reinvest the lot to get us back up.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
