The alleged cost of Nathan Jones 14:00 - Feb 17 with 3130 viewsA1079

The following is apparently reported in the Sun so I guess it has to be taken with a degree of a pinch of salt, but if true or anything like true then it is appalling. How can someone who failed so badly and was with us for such a short time get any sort of pay out? I know football has this weird thing of paying people for being sacked but this is taking it way beyond reasonable or logical.

If you suggested to the club that all home games for a season for season ticket holders and membership holders were £10 they would say they could not afford it:-

Nathan Jones cost Southampton a staggering £8.4m for 94 days work and just 𝐨𝐧𝐞 Premier League win 💸
His £1.25m per year contract was due to last 3.5 years and is likely to be paid in full.
Oh, and to make it worse, they paid Luton £4m to get him in the first place!

The points he cost us during our easiest run of the season could prove even more expensive. He could be the most expensive mistake in the Club's history.

Standard compensation package, NJ will be paid his contact in full the only thing that will be sorted out is how it's paid, lump sum or more likely he will be paid his weekly wage for the next 3 years (so he has not got to work again!!)

My understanding of it is that we pay him as if he was working for us, until the contract expires, or until he gets another job. If he wants yo sit on the couch for the next four years and get paid he can, buy his chances of getting back into football then would be limited. So there is likely to be a compromise somewhere. We'll probably give him 18 months worth of pay as a lump sum, and he'll be free to get straight back into football.

Sod that. He was FIRED. He was not up to the job. A month's notice and see you in court. Courts are not stupid.

I put a post on here a couple of days ago where if football was the real world things will be different and you walk away from the job with basically nothing if you've been sacked. the only alternative to this is if a decent employer, you may get a month's salar or something

However, as I said, football is NOT in the real world - nic job if you can get it, and don't anyone give me the BS that no one wants a sacking or anything as it seems that if you go down the managerial path in football, you willget sacked at some time and just carry on to the next sacking, sorry management job!

One can only hope that if NJ really is a committed Christian (and I have no reason to doubt the genuineness of his faith) that the majority of this financial windfall will be donated to charities in the valleys, Luton or Turkey/ Syria.

Shocking how much money our club has wasted over the last few years.
If NJ cost us 8.4M then add to that the 8M we paid for Orsic.
He must have been a panic buy because he's cost us all that money & the only full game he's played has been in the "B" team.
Plus at his age he's got virtually no sell on value.
Who makes these decisions ?.

You're right it is odd. He looked the part in the WC and he is an experienced international. But what we don't know, is the attitude of the players, how they perform in training and what their personality is like. Maybe he isn't being picked for the team, for a reason unknown to us.

The true cost of Nathan Jones is most likely Championship football, for a start.

Sir, you have to be bold and try these things at times and money is a mere secondary exponent. Just think, in years to come we can all stand proud and say that pound for pound, we had one of the best managers in Europe grace our club.

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......
