Apparently his Coutts account was closed because he no longer had the requisite amount in the account. The parent company, NatWest, offered him another account last week but he chose not to mention that. It appears that he is being as economical with the truth as he was when he campaigned for Brexit. Expat friends of mine had their business account closed down with 5 working days notice after 28 years as a customer. Their business was registered in and liable for UK tax.
They were told that they "had better make alternative arrangements".

A bank is not a public service - it's a company in business to make a profit. Like all such businesses they have the right to refuse to deal with some customers.
Having worked with Coutts in the past, I can say that they are an arrogant bunch of bankers who consider themselves above the usual types you find in the banking world. Admittedly not a high bar.
It may well be that they have a list of "sensitive" clients who they would like to ditch and they may well use the excuse of insufficient funds.
