Five things about Millwall 22:55 - Nov 4 with 3674 viewsSouthamptonfan

1) Apart from Pompey away, I have never seen so many Police Officers at a game, all carrying helmets and riot gear. The away section was caged off, and lines of police and police on horseback were protecting us, especially after the game. We were kept in the ground for about half an hour after the game, to clear away the Millwall fans. Escorted out on the coach with horses by the side of us.

2) There was plenty of room in the concourses made spacier with an outside area to drink beer and eat before the game.

3) The Saints fans were excellent once again. The celebrations after the last minute winners were obviously incredible. The Millwall fans roaring is bizarre but loud and intimidating.

4) The Millwall fans to my right were mostly skinheads, giving all the signs to our fans and abusing our subs. It was perfectly safe, with hordes of police, but you can see that they would be dangerous, intimidating and nasty without protection.

5) Saints were in control and in charge of the game, but it still feels such hard work to score and get the winner. It's not convincing BUT once again, a win is a win. Stewart coming in will hopefully help us to score.more goals and win games earlier on. Defensively we are much better though.

All in all, a great away day.

The Millwall roar is great. Wish I could have gone today but my son had a match. Went to the 2 before and loved it

There were a lot of police, when we were let out there was no real instructions of were to go etc, you just followed those in front down back streets, about every 100 yards there were a few Police officers which showed you were on the right route, but there was no escort of such .

When we got to Surrey Quays station we hadn't clue what line it was on and nor did the police, but they were busy with some lad who had his nose spread across his face and blood everywhere, not sure if he was Millwall or Saints.

We kept on going to Canada Water as we knew it went to Waterloo, someone on the train home said there had been a bit of punch up on the walk back between Saints and Millwall , but I didn't see it and done know if it was in front or behind us

There was a quite a ruck on the way back to the station. At least one Saints lad got himself nicked apparently.
Great atmosphere all day and another late winner.

We missed the first 15 minutes of the game due to being stuck in the police escort from Canada Water. What should have been a 25-minute walk took over an hour.

A couple of brainless bits of policing:-

1. The cordon in the concourse at 3.15pm stopping us getting through to the blocks towards the end of the lower tier

2. Allowing a number of our coaches to park right outside the away end, causing big bottlenecks for fans to try to navigate around both before and after the game. That could have ended very badly.

I was shocked by how many dibble were there.

Poll: Does anybody think Saints can get promoted this season?

Defensively we were much better until Manning replaced Bree.
First thing Manning did was give the ball away. I watched him closely & he has a very bad habit of playing the ball then following it & forgetting his defensive duties.
Let's hope Bree isn't out too long with his injury because although he's not a natural left back he's a very steady Eddie playing there.

1. The escort from Canada Water to the ground was ridiculously ott, yet afterwards, when you’d think there’d be more potential for agg, there was nothing.

2. Our fans nicking Man City’s song and changing all the lyrics to be about the Skates/Westwood was cringey as fvck, yet so predictable.

3. Boozing pre-match overlooking the Thames at London Bridge was great, although pricey.

4. Millwall is a proper football club with proper fans.

5. London away days are cracking days out.

1) The replacement bus service from London Bridge to South Bermondsey was fine with a bus every 5 mins or so and only took around 10 or 15 mins. Despite what someone said on here no Millwall fans attacked these busses.

2) I thought the support from the home fans was the quietest it’s ever been in all my visits to The NewDen.

3) London Bridge has some cracking pubs.

4) After the game the Police didn’t explain where they we “ leading us” having blocked off the rout back to South Bermondsey. At the time we thought it was more luck than judgement we ended up back at Surrey Quays though it was obviously well worked by the police . Just would have been better if they had let fans know that was the plan. Once and Surrey Quays just one hop on the overground to Canada Water to change for Waterloo.

5) Easy day out and another last min winner.

4, When the bus dropped us off from London Bridge, the driver says just pick it up on the other side of the road after the game
Well, That would have been fine if the old bill let you across for a 2 minute walk, but no they sent us off on some street goose chase which eventually took about a 20/25 min lap of the streets to get back to square one.
Got back to Eastleigh at J5 and they shut the motorway to J7 as it was flooded, I thought it would be chaos coming back.

I agree with you about the Millwall support it was a little quiet, but then again they didn't have a lot to shout about

1. Did the Bermondsey beer mile pre-grame, so cracking pubs there

2. Avoided Canada Water and just walked to the ground, no bother at all and got in well before the "escort"

3. the man city song we've nicked is properly sh*t, why the hell do we sing about the tramp westwood? and do our dins not know that the skates are top of league one.

4. Millwall away seemed to really encourage our nomark wannabess, had to tell a couple of kids infront of us to wind their necks in when they were doing "irons" signs and cut throats, really don't understand why our fans can't go to an away game and not embarrass themselves and the city these days

5. Drank in a home pub post game, Millwall lot are a proper set of fans and one of the few proper clubs left about in terms of community feel
