Is he any good?

And is this a vote of no confidence in Kone?

No he's 21 coming up 22. Has a scoring rate that makes Lyndon Dykes look prolific but he's young, he's big, wiry, 6 foot 4 and both left and right footed. Very much a Frey replacement I would imagine.

Never knowingly right.

I've never seen him play but from written reports he's quick and wants to run beyond defences.

If so... I'd imagine they were already looking at signing him in the summer but perhaps moved more quickly as Burrell is going to miss so many games.

I like the sound of this signing. A more proven Alfie Lloyd by the sound of things who’s done his time at Lincoln and Grimsby and another local lad

My Cov mate thought he’d play for them eventually but they’re all getting ideas above their station up there now about how “we’re a Prem team so we don’t need him anymore”

Bit harsh. Dykes has scored 60 goals in 331 appearances north and south of the border whilst Obikwu has 13 in 52. I’ve got a good feeling about this lad.

Raw Speed apparently. Bet he's not as quick as Michi Frey.

Really interesting physical profile from what I can see in the clips, tall and quick. I think we're hoping for a Burrell mk2 with this one, hopefully Cov have made a big mistake

Seems genuinely excited to be here which is always good.

Mel Johnson's son, Jamie, is Head of Scouting at Cov and would have bought Obikwu, and Cov's recruitment has been very good.

Not sure what that means, or whether he'd have been involved in the decision to sell him, but it's an interesting little side-note.

More pace and power in the squad. Hopefully when the situation is right, he will start a few games so that other strikers can be rotated and if coming off the bench have an impact against a tiring defence. He's young with hopefully some potential so maybe a in few years a sellable asset if needed

My Grimsby mates like him. Say he's rapid. More pace, never a bad thing.

Seems like a very promising signing. Will be a great squad option.

Don't know anything about this chap other than what I've gleaned online through various accounts and fans of clubs he's played for.

It looks like his underlying numbers in attack are in the 'green' sections, and his physical profile as a 6ft 4 athletic type is a plus. He's also got quite a low goals to games ratio if you look purely in the context of appearances (21 with 3 goals for Lincoln I think), but he's apparently been a sub for the vast majority and at 21 is obviously a work in progress.

I quite like signings like this. Good age, low profile, some genuine league experience, a step up with something to prove, and given Burrells injury and Freys mercy transfer, adding bodies in a position of need.

The issue of him being from Brent and playing in West London before getting picked up by Coventry, only for us to fork out half a million a few years later, is a separate conversation. Also 500k for a player a few years out of the combined counties league seems strong, but I guess we're betting on his potential and when it comes to strikers, you have to gamble more than most other positions...

Looks to me like we've tried to find another Burrell-type after seeing how well that's gone, and considering the success of RB, I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the transfer committee here.

Good luck, lad - you'll need it!

Frey must be on his way this month so we needed a third striker. Kone's been played to death. Once Burrell has returned I'd imagine he'll play off the bench, for a while at least.

Looks like the lad is one for the present and, hopefully, one for the future.

Welcome, Justin

Bigger step up than even Kone or Burrell so we’ll need to be patient .

More pace and power is really important though

Really hope he does well. Of course not seen him play yet but that's our forward line now.

Burrell
Kolli
Kone
Obikwu

Don't mind that at all. Pace added and young hungry players who hopefully just get better.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Most of his appearances are off the bench, but he does impact games.

Loads of pace and power. Could be a really good signing for us, and will help Kone and Burrell massively by actually allowing them a rest.

Good luck to Justin and welcome.

To confirm, he can't/won't play any part against Oxford tomorrow (my first question) - see last line of club statement.

Unless he's put on a growth spurt, he's listed as 5' 10" on a number of footy stat sites.

Edit - I found no mention of him living in the Borough, only that he had been born in it.
