| Brighton V Bournemouth on 21:24 - Jan 19 with 1176 views | dirk_doone | It's about a 200 mile round trip and a nightmare with all the road works if you do it by car. Perhaps some of them didn't make it in time. There's no train that will get them back to Bournemouth after the game. The best they can do would be a combination of train and coach, which will take more than 5 hours and get them home tomorrow morning. Perhaps they didn't fancy that on a Monday night with miserable weather. Credit to you, Pat. I know you do journeys like that following Saints. It would help if evening games kicked off at 7.30 pm like they used to. [Post edited 19 Jan 21:31]

I know. I did it last year for the Friday night game. Took about 3 and a half hours to get there from Poole. We still sold it out.

We have a much bigger fan base than Bournemouth. I was just pointing out that Bournemouth to Brighton isn't such a short, easy trip as some people might think. The nearest Premier League ground to Brighton is Selhurst Park. [Post edited 19 Jan 21:39]

Why bother to go when you’re comfortably mid table, knocked out of both cup competitions and effectively with nothing to play for the remainder of the season ? Plus the fact that it’s just after Christmas and the next pay cheque is nearly a fortnight away and you can’t park a car anywhere near Brighton’s ground. Far easier to save some money and stay at home and watch it on TV.

Exactly Pat. Some people take the mick out of our home support( volume wise) but our away support is second to none numbers and volume . You wouldn’t have said that in the 70’s / 80’s . I know some don’t like them but fair play to the nippers today that keep this all going . You can’t beat a good away day with good mates whatever the distance.

Noise wise our away support has been abysmal for a few years now. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Sometimes it’s crap (volume, certainly not numbers) but most of the time it’s pretty decent numbers wise and volume, we just need more songs.

Yeah no arguing with the numbers. I think it's actually other way around to your assessment though, we'll get the occasional good one but most of the time it's awful. Arguably there's a correlation between the numbers increasing and the level of support getting worse. Definitely thought QPR was one of few decent ones this season. Then again Oxford was probably the worst and Northampton was terrible too.
| Brighton V Bournemouth on 12:13 - Jan 20 with 553 views | dirk_doone | Ultimately, it doesn't make a great deal of difference. In the football Eisteddfod competition for which fans sing the best, you can't beat the Welsh. It's part of their culture, which is why the Italians are good at it too. Wrexham were by far the best singers at St Mary's this season. Man City fans are not very good and only have 2 songs to occasionally break their silence with, but their team has been beating all the others for years. This year's top team, Arsenal, don't have fans who are exactly renowned for their singing either. Hull and Preston had the smallest away followings at St Mary's, but their teams had the most convincing wins. Even with their bell and drum, Pompey have one of the worst all-time home records in football and not long ago went 7 months without a home win. So, apart from bragging rights in the football Eisteddfod, it doesn't appear to make much difference on the pitch. [Post edited 20 Jan 12:19]

| Brighton V Bournemouth on 12:59 - Jan 20 with 470 views | yateleysaint | I thought that too. By full-time the place was half-empty and the result was in the balance. If it was me I’d take the opportunity to stay overnight in Brighton. I wonder if you can get cheap accommodation at one of the nearby uni campuses. If not, it’s not like there’s any shortage of hotels in Brighton. If you can’t get time off work then fair enough but most of Bournemouth’s fanbase are retired anyway. | |

As Pat has said below, they'll struggle to fill that 20k stadium

| Brighton V Bournemouth on 20:09 - Jan 20 with 317 views | 1ASIN12 | I thought it wasn’t bad for a small club like Bournemouth, as others have said they haven’t got a large fan base. To take a 1000 or so for a Monday night game 100 miles away live on TV less than a month after Christmas isn’t bad . Didn’t they also have a Monday night game at Manchester United a couple of weeks ago too? As for Brighton , I’d hate to go there week in week out. It’s bad enough for a Saturday game to get back to Brighton If you stayed to the end last night you’d have been lucky to get back to the centre of Brighton by 11, before any further travel to get home. No wonder a lot of Brighton fans leave before the end. | | | |

It's happening at a lot of clubs. Football isn't what it used to be. Who wants to go out in the cold on a Monday night for a meaningless game, for a load of stoppages for VAR, when you can watch on tv?

Nick, i'd prefer a crowd of 22k decent fans supporting the team win or lose than have the likes of Nobby dribbling down their chins. Fcuking stay at home if your not going to support the boys
