Film 2026; don't think we have such a thread yet 13:55 - Jan 20 with 1758 viewsR_from_afar

Have we covered "I swear" yet? It's a powerful film about a Tourettes sufferer growing up in an era when the condition was yet to be recognised.

"Joyride" is also excellent. Set in Ireland, it sees a quirk of fate throw a teenager from a troubled family together with a woman - played by Olivia Colman - who has just given birth to an unwanted child. Poignant yet full of humour.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I went to see Marty Supreme the other night. Brilliant acting by the main actor in it. I also like a bit of Table Tennis as well.

If you like table tennis - I am a tiny bit obsessed with playing it at the moment - the WTT channel on YouTube usually shows all the big games live, free of charge.

Thanks, I will have a look.
I actually play in a team in the Croydon league but I seem to be losing to a lot of youngsters more each season!

'Der Tiger' on showing on Amazon was good. Modern-day Apocalypse Now. Irritatingly, they list the film as 'The Tank'.

Side note: the lead character has crushed his cap without removing the bloody stiffeners (the first thing you'd do if you wanted to crush the bloody thing!) No idea why I found that annoying - just did.

Side note (part 2): the mock up they did of a Tiger was outstanding! Genuinely brilliant. For armour-heads out there, check the track-width. It's actually an IS2 under that disguise! Compare it to the shocking T34 bodge they did in 'Private Ryan': it was like they'd got the props department from a 1985 Doctor Who to do that one!.

(Sorry - ranting. I have spent waaaay too long in the Tank Museum over the years. For reference, the Tiger in 'Fury' is the real thing. It's Tiger 131 from Bovington.)

Watch it in German with the subtitles - it's far better.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I can confirm Bone Temple is brilliant.

Needledrops aplenty, the Number of the Beast scene is a thing of beauty.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

I thought The Bone Temple was a big improvement on Years (I hate Boyle's direction) but the first half was so nihilistic, nasty and cruel, it really knocked me out of caring. Finnes was fantastic though.

See that you’re a table tennis player and you enjoyed Marty Supreme, so you’re the ideal person to ask this question.

Did you, like me, think his stance looked nothing like a table tennis player. Those trick shots performed from behind his back were laughable.

I have a long standing loathing of actors who can’t even portray at least an image of whatever professional sport they’re representing, yet somehow this fellas up from an Oscar as best actor. Surely the starting point of any acting performance is to at least look realistic.

Mr. Nobody Against Putin.

Mrs PH is heavily involved with a political film festival we have in town. She's on the selection committee that recommends film to be shown, and has been raving about it since considering it mknths ago. She interviewed the film maker and by all accounts, he's a diamond.

The film has just been nominated for an Oscar.

Ah, interesting. I haven't seen the film yet.

Here's the receive stance of current world number one, Lin Shidong. You'd normally receive serve front on to the table, crouching and positioned centrally, as Lin is.

You do occasionally see the pros use behind the back shots, and some players - see below - can execute them reliably - but they are such high risk that a standard forehand or backhand shot is usually more sensible.

The thing with Sinners is that, I absolutely loved it, but also the craft is off the scale. Even if you didn't like it, you couldn't deny the skill that's gone into making it. The cinematography, the music, the costuming, it's easy to see why it's picked up so many nominations.

Plus most people in the Academy aren't experts in everything so if they're likely to cross vote in other categories for film they've put for Best Film

Sinners - watched it last week. Almost forgotten it already. From Dusk to Dawn ripoff but glossy in design.

Agree about Sinners, I didn't love it but admired how well made it is, some beautiful shots, and the use of music is excellent.

Edit: I need to watch this film again because so many people who's opinions I respect really rated it, and on the face of it it's a film that couldn't be any more my jam
