Not at Coventry City on Saturday but at Arsenal, apparently Everton player Thiego Barry got tickets in the Everton section for a number of his friends who support Arsenal and cheered when Arsenal scored.
They had to to be escorted from the ground for their own safety after they were turned on by Everton supporters (Who probably didn't know how they got there )
Barry then went online about it condemning the attack and that seems to have started a backlash against him from Everton fans.
Although no one condones violence, I have sympathy with the Everton fans who have seen tickets in their section go to friends of the players who have shown no awareness of where they were,
I can understand why Everton supporters who might have gone to this game if they could have got a ticket are well miffed |  |

Yep, Barry is an idiot. Giving tickets to away fans in the wrong section is always stupid, but does he not understand that he is helping out the opposition!!! Anyone can easily find the clip of Arsenal fans celebrating like crazy in the Everton away section. You just don't do that. [Post edited 16 Mar 7:48]

Completely agree.
Firstly violence doesn’t have any place in football, society. But neither is acting likes divvies which both Barry and his mates are. You can’t get a ticket for an Everton away game, our club got a handful for people who go home and away.
His comments since laying into the club and supporters is also ill advised. He’s played like a competition winner for most parts including a very poor appearance on Saturday when coming into n as sub. The fans have shown him great support that he barely deserves. I’m sure Moyes will be having a few words with him today, ideally starting with telling him to shut up. | | | |

Can't say I have any sympathy for them, especially if they celebrated in the away end.
They knew they were in with away fans, and the tickets would have been clearly marked. I am not condoning what happened to them, but Barry needs to take some responsibility for this.
We know this goes on with regular fans, and I have also been in away sections, e.g. Fulham, Dagenham and Norwich, but always behave accordingly and not draw attention to my self. | | | |

I can see it from our perspective as English football fans, but I can also understand how he made this mistake without really realizing what might happen. He is 23, French-Guinean, has previously only played for small European clubs. He's only been in England for 8 months. He'd have very limited experience of life here and no experience of football in this country as a fan. Some of his mates, presumably also French African, asked him for tickets. Maybe they were even over here from France to see him play in London, against Arsenal, the English club traditionally supported by black Africans, because they've always had a lot of players with African heritage. "When you play at Arsenal, can you get us tickets" "Of course.."

But surely whoever he gets the tickets from at the club would have known that he would be getting tickets for friends of his who would support him and would advise him accordingly |  |

If it was me and I was asked for tickets to watch Arsenal, friends or not, I would tell them to go through the proper channels, get a membership for the club, join the waiting list for a season ticket, travel hundreds of miles to London and sit in the right end. Alternatively, support your local team and stop being a glory hunting tourist. If you can't get a ticket, then tough. Taking the ticket of a loyal away fan is not on. It annoys me when this happens at St Mary's in the PL, when loyal fans miss out on a ticket because of glory hunting tourist who don't live anywhere near the ground of the team they claim to support. Surely, the least Barry could have expected from "his friends" that they support the team their friend plays for, not the opppsition! If one of my friends asked for a darts ticket, to cheer on the person I was playing, I would tell them where to stuff it! Some friend you are, I would say, suppprting my opponent!
