I would assume that Forster like Jose Fonte who apparently was announced as playing are both still contracted to clubs who wouldn't be allowed to play in case they picked up an injury

I went along with my lad and we really enjoyed it. Seeing SRL score again in front of the Northam End was probably worth the money alone. And it was fantastic to see the likes of Killer and big Ken Monkou back again. Lee Barnard and Josh Hoiveld have clearly looked after themselves and were the fittest ones in our team by miles. It was actually quite a competitive game. Man U took it pretty seriously, especially towards the end, by which time the average age of the Saints team must have risen to about 60. Decent crowd too, I thought. Someone on here called the event a 'flop' the other day, it definitely wasn't that.

All a bit daft really. It didn't attract a big crowd, even at cheap prices and I am not surprised. The legends match? No Shearer, no Tim Flowers, No Pahars, No Beattie, no Bale, no Luke Shaw from the top of my head, and so many more. For Man U no Beckham, No Giggs etc. From what I heard, very little spoken about the actual game in 76. Empty seats everywhere. Did any of those fit and well members of the 76 team enter the pitch and parade the trophy? It didn't really do much to celebrate such a momentous occassion in our history. When we had the open top bus arrive before a game against Man City a few years back, that was more of a celebration.

I don't know the official attendance, but the ground looked just under half full, so I would say that 13 or 14K is a pretty decent turn out for a match like this (and for context, thats not a lot less than attended the Benali and Doddsy testimonials at The Dell when testimonials were still a big thing and the likes of Shearer, Flowers, etc, did turn up to play). Some of the 76 squad were interviewed on the pitch at half time. It was disappointing Mike Channon wasn't there but maybe there was a race on somewhere. As for the players you mentioned, to the best of my knowledge Luke Shaw is still playing for the proper Man U team and Beattie, Flowers, and I'm sure one or two others, have coaching commitments on a Saturday afternoon. Beckham's appearance fee would've bankrupted the club and Giggs would have tried to shag all the other players' wives, so his absence was understandable. But people are right, calling it a 'Legends' match was a very long stretch of the imagination in many cases. However, despite that, I and everyone else I spoke to, enjoyed the occasion and, having watched the dire England friendly on telly the previous night, I know which match I would have preferred to have attended.

Locally based Man U fans - one.of the reasons why I didn't bother. If they are local and born in the area they should support Southampton. I wonder how.many actually travelled down from Manchester, probabaly none. Fans from across the south using our ground, because they live so far away from.Old Trafford, that they would never be able to watch them. Local Man U fans what a sick fest. Apparently more Man U fans on the ferry from the isle of wight than Saints fans. They arn't fans are they, just look at me I support a big team - idiots who just turn at the local ground of the team they should really support.
To me, it was meant to be our celebration yet the place was half full of Man U fans. Nah, not for me.
