I respect a good politician who doesnt use football to seem more “normal”. Starmer did this awful trick with his Gary Neville pre-election interview. Sunak too by latching onto Saints. Awful.

I don’t doubt he’s a fan. I just don’t like the photo opportunities to seem like a normal guy, mainly for political reasons; The awkward pictures in front of a tv screen which scream “here, take a pic of me watching the game”.

Burnham drank in the same back street boozer before the match near Goodison with his family (The Stuart) that me as me and my family. Dead sound fella, always had a chat at the bar. My brother is a teacher at a Sixth Form college in Manchester and he arranged to go into the college a few times to speak to the kids. He then moved to the same pub as us when The Stuart closed (The Cheppy) and would always let on and have a chat.
My brother keeps in touch with him (via text) and he’s always been great. I’d imagine he will be blocking him now though! [Post edited 22 Jun 19:53]

I met them in 1998 when I was looking for my first post-uni rental. Looked round their flat above the pharmacy with them, but I didn't take it as the parking was a bit iffy (on the pavement job). |  |
