1. Keep emotion out of it, Gavin Bazunu is far from the worst keeper that we have had and believe it or not Damion Downs is not the worst centre forward.
2. They have had to have played for the first team more than just a couple of games in an emergency, genuine first team contenders only.

Sekou Mara didn't seem to find his position at the club, but he was rarely played at Centre Forward, most games he played in seemed to have Che Adams in that position and he would play out wide.
Craig Maskell was not a centre forward, he was an inside forward/striker and belongs in the previous thread, when he returned to the club in 1994 and scored against Liverpool on his debut he wore the number 8 shirt and Iain Dowie was the centre forward at number 9.
Stig Johanssen was likewise an inside forward, we had two genuine centre forward at the club at that time in Egil Ostenstad and Kevin Davies, Johansen had just 4 starts plus 4 as sub.

The league goal was against Arsenal, it hit him on the back and I doubt he knew much about it, ran away celebrating like he’d absolutely nailed one from 30 yards out
He also was involved in Sol Campbell getting a red card in that match, he was “bearing down” on the goal and Campbell fouled him. It was right in front of me in The Chapel and the reality of it was he looked like he was wading through treacle and hoping that he would get fouled
I remember watching a game in the 2006 World Cup when he was playing for Ecuador, he actually looked very good in that game. He was never fit in his time with us and I don’t think Strachan really wanted him as he’d signed just before GS took over as manager | |

That Downs assist was not really an assist - it was him trying to score from virtually on the line, but he miss-kicked it, it went to Stephens and he netted from a tight angle, to give us a last gasp win v Wrexham.

Why does what they cost have relevance?
Paul Moody has ranked pretty highly from a number of fans on here. I think he cost less than £100k.
I would imagine that Bristol City might not rehearse that move, as the idea is generally for the cross to enable a header or a volley where the striker / centre forward / whatever you want to call it today is running on to the ball.
Your determination to run down Ballard is a lot more difficult to understand than everybody else saying Downs is shite.
And yes, Downs is a lot worse than Carillo, who could at least control a football. | |
