Southampton At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict on 09:38 - Aug 8 with 1403 viewssaintwizzler

Spot on.

I’ve had no trust in Hassenhüttl since January but new owners, new beginnings, new season was willing to wipe the slate clean.
The fact that he has not addressed the Central Defence problem position is worrying.
A back five with Valery at CB and Djenepo in it is asking for trouble.

If he is determined to play a Left Wing Back and Perraud is either not up to it in his eyes or not fit enough then get a player in on loan or a permanent deal not stick a Right Footed attacking player out there!!

Something needs to change and quickly.

I’ve said give him till after the Villa game, that will be eight games played, but loss after loss will he have that long.

I hope he is still here at the end of the season as that would mean he is doing a good job in the owner’s and fan’s eyes, but the excuses of previous seasons have all been used and it’s now down to Hassenhüttl to produce or go.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

15th? Can you honestly name 5 sides worse than us?

Why are you not blaming the board for the utter failure this transfer window? Buying kids is not the manager's idea it is the ethos coming from the board and Sports Republic who think they can make money this way.

It was just the same old shite at Spurs. Nothing's changed.
It's all getting a bit too much now - the stubborn insistence on experimenting with wing backs, players out of position (yet again) strikers on the bench, using midfielders as strikers - I was actually surprised that McCarthy was not in goal.
It needs new ideas, new motivation and a new manager.
And it needs it now.

Nick makes a valid point about leadership on the field.

He's our best player but perhaps JWP is not the right person to be captain.

But ultimately every decision comes back to Ralph. And, for me, be it during a game or during a run of bad results, he just doesn't seem to know how to fix things when they start going wrong.

Nick you say you have faith in Ralph and you focussed on the lack of defensive leadership which is a very valid point.
what you didn't touch on was........ -
The lack of fight. We were out run and out worked.
Adams being left on the bench whilst we play a succession of midfielders in front of him.
Adam Armstrong playing up front on his own??
Djenepo suddenly being good enough to start as a wingback after being left out for most of last season.
Stephens being brought on at half time despite barely being considered in pre season.
Where was Bella Kotchap?
Subbing KWP for Redmond in the 93rd minute at 4-1 down (not big deal but literally what was the point?).

I was trying to defend the performance at half time when we were only one down, but there was then our usual utter capitulation. Ralph's selections again baffled most people and it really looks like he doesn't have any kind of plan at all.

Nick, you say that KWP is not an experienced wing back but he was in the right back position when he let his man in to score. As for the Salisu goal, you don’t need to be vastly experienced or a leader of men to give him a shout and tell him he has got time, or to leave it. What we see time and again are individual errors that get punished frequently at this level. Salisu has many attributes but he does make silly mistakes. Valery, Stephens and Bednarek would be lucky to warm the benches in other EPL squads.

Why are we having to play square pegs in round holes?

Because we don't have a complete squad. We've only one LB in the senior squad and only 3 strikers, 1 just signed, etc.

Don't apologise Nick, for continuing to say we need an experienced, leader at the back, you're right. You and all of us have been saying it for years. The club, Ralph, both or one or the other is just ignoring the blatant obvious.

If any of us needed a life saving operation, most of us would want an experienced surgeon to lead it, not one that has just come out of med school. It's obvious fundamentals in life, let alone on the pitch. We absolutely need a leader and a leader can't be 18 years old, as they haven't experienced enough to lead! So are they mad? What can't they see?

I disagree about that being the only issue though Nick. Yes, we need leadership at the back absolutely agree, but if you don't also score goals, you go down. Even the best defences in this league, will concede goals. You need to be able to score goals to win games. Only Ward-Prowse seems capable at the moment.

I hope anyone going to the fans' forum this week, is going to ask the questions.

The fans forum will be a waste of time.

Semmens will be his usual polished self and make it look like all is rosey.

Ralph will just bleat about every other club improving their team and how difficult it is to compete.

Somebody else will talk about the outdoor bars and catering stuff.

While fans ask inane questions about kits and the 5 subs rule.

Poll: Would you take going down to League 1 if it meant new owners coming in?

Go back several months and the exact same could have been said post the Brentford game.....new players, same end result sadly.

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......
