I think it's good that they are in regular dialogue.
They should be having daily meetings over the next 4 weeks, as it's the most important 4 weeks of our season.
Having just extended his contract, I think Martin's job will be safe whatever happens.
After all, he has shown he can get us out of the Championship.
A lot of the SKY money will already have gone on:-
- transfer fees and signing-on fees for Harwood-Bellis, Downes and Brereton
- signing-on fees for Lallana and Charlie Taylor
- ground renovations / re-jigging etc.
Key man in all of this therefore is Solak; he has to decide whether he is going to put his hand in his pocket.
KWP aside, we don't seem to have much in saleable assets to generate incoming cash. | |

Hopefully they will start to come up with something resembling a plan. So far our plan looks as though it was put together by Baldrick. We are desperately in need of a goalkeeper and centre forward, as a minimum, but meanwhile we have:
- signed 2 CBs who look like reserves, taking us to 5 CBs without improving the 1st team.
- signed a RB when it looks like our first choice RB is going nowhere (if he's turned down WHU I can't see him moving). Again, we haven't improved the 1st team.
- played the deadwood in friendlies instead of shipping them out.
The players who've gone have weakened us and only BBD has added something extra. The first agenda item for their meeting should be "1. Start getting our f*cking sh*t together". | | | |

I agree, it looks like a regular thing. Updating, who is out of the game, who has come up for grabs, re-prioritizing options, making sure everyone is in agreement. Now that Leeds have sold Somerville, they become “rich competitors” for any winger we might be interested in, so our backup options need to be clear for example. |  |

Rusell Martin said he was speaking to the owners that evening, he didn't say I am speaking to the owners this evening for the first time since we got promoted.
Likewise the owners would not have said, go away and come back and let us know what you have done two weeks before the season.
Yet everyone seems to be using this as a stick to beat the manager and the club about.

Main discussion would of been Ramsdale how long can they wait for an answer as Lis will go back to Turkey and if not number 2 target. Forward is now filled , defence is now sorted Midfield is one attacking player and a wide player is a priority. So if you think nothing has been going on and they have only just started discussing transfers you are having a laugh!

I'm sure they've had lots of meetings. I don't criticise them for not having enough meetings, I criticise them for what they've achieved. The bottom line is that they have to take the 4th best in the Championship and turn them into something that can compete at PL level. I think they're a long way from achieving that.

You say we're "going for some very good potential young players". Which ones? We tried the same strategy the last time we were in the PL and it didn't end well.
You say "forward is filled". BBD is not an out and out centre forward. We need someone who can hold the ball up to take pressure off the defence, someone who can play with his back to goal. From what I've seen of BBD that's not his game, he's more of a wide player in a 3. But you're saying the CF is either BBD, or AA (maybe the crocked Scot, maybe Aribo). Is that right? | | | |

We also still have others who can play in the middle up front Charly Alcaraz, Sekou Mara even Sulemana, of course these three would divide opinion on their relative merits, but all have scored in the Premier League for Saints.
Im not sure what sort of target man we would need, Onuachu is a target man, but we don't play that way under Russell Martin, it is about speed and passing and pace, not a big man up top as they say.

We need the kind of target man that I was talking about above - one who can play with his back to goal and hold the ball up to take pressure off the defence. The likes of Alcaraz and Sulemana can't do this.
RM wants to pass the ball around the opposition and move the team and ball up the pitch together, slowly. But if we stick to that all the time in the Prem it will be suicidal. Sometimes we will just need an outlet to relieve the pressure on the defence and bypass the opposition press. RM has shown that he can compromise when he has to, and he's going to have to do a lot of that this year if we're going to survive. | | | |

Yes I agree with you we lack someone who can hold the ball up and play others in . Armstrong is the nearest we have got too this, but yes he is better coming in from out wide.
Im not sure about Brereton Diaz, but he could be the answer.
Dibling is big and strong, but I am not sure he is ready yet.

You disagree with me but then dont back much of it up with any real evidence.
I think Armstrong is a different player than he was two years ago when he played in the Premier League, he is now more about work rate and creating chances and scoring them, if any secondary striker gets 6 goals in the Premier League then they are doing ok.
As you say we don't know about BBD, all we can judge if his record at Sheffield United and that could be a flash in the pan, we won't know till we see him at this level.
It is easy to write Ross Stewart off, but truth is we don't know if he is fit or not and we don't know if he can play at this level, truth is we don't know anything about him, we can only judge him when he plays.
You say Mara & Sulemara are sh*t I wouldnt say that, but they haven't exactly set the world alight either, however how can you say they are stopping Dibling getting minutes, we know nothing about Dibling either other than he has potential, but he has never played at this level either, so we don't know what he is like.
What is a focal point up front ? a big centre forward like Tall Paul ? ok not like him but you get my point, I dont think the manager wants a focal point, he want's 3 players up front who can interchange and work hard | |
