Only good for 6 goals a season though.

We can do better.

He was very unusual for a Saints player because when he got the ball anywhere on the pitch he made a beeline for goal. The only player we have now who does that is Aribo but he's not a striker. Most of our players tend to stop and then pass sideways or backwards or veer off to the side when confronted with the prospect of a run at goal.

Young raw and greedy... Loved hto have had him here for one more season.
He lifted the crowd and the team. He had a little bit of the X factor about him.
It's about being realistic and not expecting him to get 15/20 goals but aim for 10 along with Che chipping in.

Ralph will train that out of Aribo, give him a few months and He’ll be an average wing back just like Djenepo

Reality says we can, I would expect us to sign a striker in January, we tried to land one late in the window and couldn't, such is the duality of Saints fans we complain about a lack of goals and then suggest that a man who scored only six goals for us is the answer.

Che Adams is a good second striker good for 8-9 goals, but we need a player that can get into double figures

Nick, with respect, if you think we will be able to sign a decent striker in January, I would suggest you have been watching cartoons.

It is extremely difficult to do any business in January, particularly if you are a club at the wrong end of the table. Players won’t sign for a struggling club and risk having their pay cut by 50% in June due to relegation clauses. And clubs won’t be selling decent players.

Even Newcastle struggled last January, despite being able to pay ridiculous wages. Which we wouldn’t be offering.

I don’t see us signing a striker of any repute in January. At best it would be Danny Ings on a 6-month loan if Villa are daft enough to let him go.

Given more experience I would hope Broja would have increased his goal tally.
6 goals for a guy who started the season as a 19 year old and playing his first season in the Prem for a very average side is a decent return.
Maybe you couldn't sense it but personally I felt he lifted the team and the crowd.

He certainly did.

Pushed us up the pitch, as oppo defences had to play deeper to combat his pace. Even top sides were scared of him.

Which in turn relieved the pressure on our defence and midfield.

It mystifies me that people still argue against this.

Until he and the other players downed tools after the West Ham cup win.

12 league games
1 win, 2 draws & 9 defeats.
Disgraceful.

Nick you were telling everyone we didn’t need a striker and we just needed to stop them at the other end.

Che Adams is our main striker but as you say good for only 8/9 a season so it was obvious we needed a striker last window.

Broja, Ings, Tella, Obafemi....they all score goals. Unfortunately, Adam Armstrong doesn't. We really should replace him in January.

Did I say we would sign him on a permanent basis, there are plenty out there who can't get in their club sides and want game time and are decent players, we can utilise loans there.

We shop mainly on the continent these days for experienced players and prices aren't so over the top there.

In the past we have made some good January signings, Charlie Austin & Manolo Gabbiadini for example, most will say that Gabbiadini is a legend and Austin was useless, but at £4 million Austin was by far the better buy, we got our money back on him and he had a better goals per game ratio than the Italian.

You say Newcastle struggled last January but they signed 4 players and spent £85 million, they got the players to keep them up.

Tella & Obafemi don't score that many goals, Obafemi has 3 goals in the Championship in 14 games, Tella has scored 6 in 14 so much better, but Adam Armstrong got 28 in 40 games in his last season in the Championship with Blackburn.

That tells you something and he has a better scoring record for Saints than either of those players in the Premier League

I thought Nick was maintaining that Mara would do as well?

6 PL goals? He'll be lucky to get 6 PL mins. (to be blunt).

Judge a player over a season not just one third of it, by December last year Broja had 4 goals and we were salivating, but the second half of the season didn't go too well

The whole team went on holiday for the final 1/3 of the season. I wouldnt judge Broja a player on loan, when the senior players in the dressing room couldnt be arsed.

I doubt Adam and Mara will get 6 goals between them.
