Grounds That You Have Been To But Haven't 22:26 - Jun 6 with 1781 viewsSaintNick

I went to Bradford City in the FA Cup in 1976, I have never been back since, just seen a pic and it struck me that the ground has completely changed and there is nothing left of when I went there, so Ive been to Valley Parade only I havent so to speak

Any other grounds that you have been to and now completely changed

It’s almost the same position as the old ground.

Fun fact.

We have a 100% win record against Bradford in the Prem.

I went there on one of Clive’s minibuses when we beat them 2-1 up there under Hoddle. Took my wife on the minibus (though we were not married at the time); she was the only female on the minibus and it was a day she hasn’t forgotten……

Not at all its a different angle and most of it is built behind one end of WHL, Spurs still played at WHL as most of the stadium was put up, part of one stand is perhaps on the same ground as one end of WHL thats as near as it is.

I was away both times we went to Bradford in the Premier league, hence never been since 201976

Eastville. Who remembers the near riot there after the 2-0 loss, in what,1978?

I was referring not to grounds that have now gone and new stadiums built elsewhere, but grounds that where the pitch is in the same place but have now been completely rebuilt.

Wolves is one ground that has changed on all four sides since I first went in 1979, another would be Newcastle, possibly West Brom, and Anfield, in the Championship Preston, Norwich & Blackburn spring to mind

I didn’t realise it overlapped with the old footprint at all. I mean, where did that car park and Sainsbury’s at the Paxton Rd [?] end come from?

I remember that, the Saints fans got on the pitch and in a line started off for the Rovers end. The Rovers fans did the same. When the lines drew close both sets turned around and ran back. It was amusing

I have just had a look on google maps, one end of the stadium overlaps a little where the old ground was, but I would say about 90% of it is the other side of Paxton Road from where the old stadium was

As my Mrs originates from Bradford, I go up there a few times a year, usually managing to tie it in when we've got a northern away game.

Had an occasion earlier this year when Saints weren't playing but Bradford were at home, so finally got round to catching a game there. It's an impressive stadium with a very good atmosphere. It's quite something that a club of that size has been in League 2 for so long.

Stamford Bridge.

I remember the old dog track around the pitch.

I saw us play a pre-season friendly at Leyton Orient in the early 90's and I haven't been back since. Pretty sure that ground's completely re-built now.

I may have been with you, and yes, completely rebuilt.

Re WHL, I think you could see part of the new ground being built directly opposite our corner on our last visit there in 2017. I think we were the last side to win there the year before.

Slightly different, but I have never seen Saints at Birmingham City. Saw Winchester win the FA Vase there. That ground has also been rebuilt I think, and lots of it was shut down last season

Old main stand at Orient is the basically same as it was in 1978 when we won promotion, apart from seats on the terrace at the front

One ground totally changed including direction of pitch is Dean Court or Vitality Stadium as it’s now known

as far as I know every Stand at Anfield had been rebuilt since my first visit in 1979, and Stamford Bridge too since my first visit in 1976.

Other grounds basically rebuilt since I first visited Newcastle, Blackpool, Preston, Bristol City, Fulham, Plymouth, Norwich, Ipswich, Man Utd, Wolves, Villa, Forest, West Brom, Blackburn, probably a few others

Haven't been to Bristol City, Blackburn or Preston in the last 40 years so a possible three.
Others not been to since 80-90's, Ipswich, Mansfield, Gillingham are maybes.

Abroad, Real Madrid, Bilbao, Besiktas, Windsor Pk, Romania National Stadium, Cologne, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart are some I think, haven't checked 100% but think re developed on original site
