Ruddock is a bit of a phoney in my book. He never seems to acknowledge his time with Saints and all that “Razor” hard man schtick grates. He wouldn’t last a minute against the likes of Jimmy Case or Ron Harris. Likewise Vinny Jones another image over reality - he always kept well clear of Casey on the field….

2 Danny Higginbotham (on the only occasion a the ball landed in my lap at St Mary's he said "just keep hold of it a minute, mate" as they got back in defence)
3 Peter Osgood ( we ran what used to be the Pensioners Arms in Carlton Place from 2003 for a couple of years and he came in there on a few occasions with Ron Harris. Lovely charaacter, no airs and graces, and of course a bit of a legend)

How come Mick Channon hasn't been mentioned yet?

1/Mick Channon. I don't think I've ever seen an interview where he hasn't snuck in a few old school swear words such as bloody , bugger etc!! Always played the game with a smile on his face., and a cheeky glint in his eye in Interviews!

2/ Eric Martin For those of us of a certain vintage, Eric Martin was the best pre match entertainment going, with his throwing any spare pre match kick about balls into a sack held by the groundsman on the touchline. I can't remember if it was a regular thing or just a figment of my imagination but didn't Eric and Channon sometimes swap roles for a few minutes pre match kick about?

Talking of Keepers, I never got to see any of Budgie Burridges famous pre match warm ups as I was still down the pub and only heard but never witnessed Dave Beasant chatting to the crowd and telling jokes during stoppages in play!!

My 3rd option after Channon and Martin, is a bit of a curve ball ....

Remember when he used to do a little bit on The OS and would finish of with a Tommy Cooper stylee joke? And his Cameo Roles in the Dr Barry Gale videos were great as well. I could be a bit biased as he is an old school mate of mine

it was a RAF police dog display but still really funny to see Sgt Plod make an idiot of himself. At least he had the bottle afterwards to walk around the pitch and acknowledge the wind up applause

I expect these days the plod would have shot the RAF police dog for being on the pitch
