Lavia sulking 23:13 - Jul 25 with 3048 viewsButty101

Sky Sports broadcaster James Green was in attendance at the match and tweeted: "At St Mary’s tonight and Romeo Lavia looked decidedly uninterested during the first half." Green added: "Head down, often walking around, showed glimpses of his class, but looked like a player wanting a move away. Taken off at half time #SouthamptonFC #SaintsFC"

I dont think any outfield player has actually played a full game so far in pre season, its sky sports trying to make a story up that isn't really there

Except RM said “Roméo (Lavia) has a lot (going on) in his head."

In other words, he can't wait to be at another club.

He's a young man of undoubted talent who has been built up all his life by coaches to believe that he is a brilliant player.

He finds himself in a relegated team where perhaps 3 or 4 of the squad around him will be leaving by the end of August. He reads in the papers that he's wanted by "big" clubs but he hears nothing from Saints (for obvious reasons) just his agent.

He does not have the maturity of an adult to exercise patience. He may well be influenced by his agent telling him to play poorly as that is an incentive for Saints to sell. That is poor advice. Play badly and the interest shown elsewhere disappears like summer mist.

It's the job of the manager and coach to speak with him - either the arm around the shoulder or a b ollicking - whichever suits him and get him to turn in some performances.

I suspect also learning the new tactics may take him a while and he may feel a little out of place.

Or he could be an ungrateful mardy tart.

Either way, his attitude and present state of mind has no correlation to his salary and linking that is wrong and illogical.

Of course he can't. One of the biggest clubs in the world is after him and he's having to turn out for a club in the 2nd tier.

He'll be gone soon and we'll get some desperately needed cash.

This is a nothing story and the media sensationalising things.
Yes he made a few misplaced passes in the game - he does every game. Yes he was subbed at HT - along with others as it's a preseason friendly FFS. He's played in other friendlies - it's not like he is on strike or acting like some of the other cvnts who left us in recent years.

I'm sure he will go, but until then, he's had his head down and put a shift in. Quite level headed for a 19 year old.

As it stands, Liverpool have currently offered an alleged £37m, which is still short of what Chelsea offered on the last day of the window last summer. I'm sure they will improve their offer, but I doubt they will get any joy until they match our £50m valuation. (Full payment upfront as well please !!)

Good balanced view, Lavia hasnt showed any sign of petulance, the fact is that we are in the Championship, Liverpool will offer him a lot more money plus the chance to play in Europe and challenge for trophies , he cannot be blamed for wanting that

Exactly this. Lavia is not sulking at all. He’s a young man with an exceptional talent who deserves to play in the top league in England . Many people I spoke to about the game said he wasn’t sulking at all. Just a made up story. Good luck to the lad.

Depends what you call sulking. What did RM mean when he said "he has things in his head"? As opposed to "Lavia's a professional, top guy, he will give his all until something happens". Lavia naturally won't want to get injured before his move, and therefore won't jump into tackles. Maybe sulking isn't the right word, but his head will already be in Liverpool. He won't want to get stuck in and risk getting injured.

And good luck to him? If he does well so do Liverpool. You want Liverpool to do well? I don't, so I won't be wishing him or anyone luck at other PL clubs.

It’s Happened a million times before, a player from a smaller club wants to play for a larger club that win many trophies and triple his salary. SHOCK HORROR. Do you think Lavia is a championship player then. ? If you were offered a pay rise and promotions at another company would you turn it down ? Of course he’s got things going on in his head but I repeat he isn’t sulking and I’m sure most decent saints fans would wish him well. Has he let saints down ? He was player of the season by some distance .

How do you know for sure he isn't sulking? I don't know for sure he is either but how many people said they would wish Danny Ings well before his move, thinking he was the bees knees, until they realised what he was like? Many fans said his goalless spell at the end of his time here was nothing to do with sulking, until he signed for Villa and scored on his debut after saying he would only leave for a top 6 club. Fans then suddenly changed their mind on Ings and stopping wishing him luck. Were they just bad judges of character?

RM himself didn't exactly big Lavia up in his words which I thought was interesting. He was here for one year, if he wants to go, yes he can go but I.wont be wishing any players luck at other clubs, especially Liverpool. I really hope they don't win the league, I don't like the system of PL clubs spoiling the game because they sign the best players, so I won't be wishing their players luck, but you can if you like.

I used to think exactly the same as you . I don’t like the system either but there’s not a lot you can do about it unless rules are brought in to stop the big clubs getting richer but that won’t happen because the top 6/7 clubs have fan bases all over the world and they are the ones who subscribe to sky etc . I’ve been saying for a while It wouldn’t bother me if we were relegated . I’m 62 now and there’s only one ground in the championship I haven’t seen saints play in and that’s Rotherham.

I guess as you get older you don’t get so wound up about it .

I'm happy to be out of the PL and looking forward to the Championship. I hope Saints get rid of all the players who don't want to be here and get ones in who fight blood and nail for the shirt. Remember Grimsby, when half of those who want to leave embarrassed the fanbase? But all these players who took us down, p!ssing off to PL clubs because they think they are all too good for the Championship. Do me a favour. They are the ones who took us there. Yes, wed all probably take a massive pay rise, but players who carry out campaigns for gays, rushing off to Saudi Arabia (where they chop off people's arms) all for the money and players desperate to play for Liverpool after they did what they did with VD. Im used to it, I know what it's like nowadays, a far cry from the days of Le Tissier and Benali, but I don't wish them luck, the greedy bast@ads 😜

What like Van Dijk?

Van Dijk had established himself as an in demand world class player courtesy of Saints after they lifted him from Celtic. The least he could have done was given the club some respect and put in some effort for his money before he stepped on us on the way up. But instead he chose to put in a display of indifference to the club and the supporters when pretending to play football just before he left.
Lavia is only nineteen and he's already to good for us (so he thinks courtesy of Plopp).
What a contrast Alcaraz has been so far. Great enthusiasm and work rate. And a public display of tears after being subbed by the idiot Selles.

Good shout for Alcaraz. He really gives his all, even since being relegated, apparently willing to stay, even though he is good enough to go elsewhere. All those who want to go, good riddance.

Don't think Lavia is sulking. Full RM interview is very positive. Why oh why are Chelsea bidding £80 mill plus for Caicedo. Brighton just piss themselves laughing when Chelsea come to call. For God's sake Poch. £50 mill gets Lavia and really pisses the Scouse cheapskates off!

Interesting to see that Lavia didn't get any minutes on the pitch at Sheffield Wednesday. He looked as miserable as sin. It certainly wasn't a tactical decision not to play him.

Compare the attitude of Ward-Prowse and Lavia. Ward-Prowse was excellent Friday night, giving his all, acknowledging the fans - Worlds apart. Ward-Prowse I wish all the best. He knows how to respect the fans and club.
