Will Still was sacked on 2 November. We were 4th bottom and 16 points behind the leaders...

02-Nov-25 P W D L F A GD Pts
1 Coventry City 13 8 4 1 36 12 24 28
21 Southampton 13 2 6 5 13 19 -6 12

Exactly 6 months later we finished 4th and only 15 points behind the leaders...

02-May-26 P W D L F A GD Pts
1 Coventry City 46 28 11 7 97 45 52 95
4 Southampton 46 22 14 10 82 56 26 80

In those 6 months we scored more goals and picked up more point than everyone else in the leagues, including the eventual Champions.

In period P W D L F A GD Pts
Coventry City 33 20 7 6 61 33 28 67
Southampton 33 20 8 5 69 37 32 68

Never mind about the play-offs, what an extraordinary 6 months this manager and this team have delivered.

Nice stats and when you add in the cup run, it shows what an incredible moment this is and that it "should" propel us to promotion via the play offs.

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

It's wrong to think this all about Tonda replacing Still. That's part of it, but not the whole picture. It's really the combination of Tonda with the new squad that's done the job. Without the squad changes, we probably wouldn't have made the play offs.

Tonda played 17 games with the old squad and got 1.6 points per game. That's decent, but our form was actually getting worse after his new manager bounce. From mid December to mid Jan we had 7 games where we got 0.4 points per game. That's actually much worse than under Will Still who got 12 from 13.

But then we got the January recruits and that's when everything changed. He's played 16 league games with this squad and got 2.5 points per game. That's amazing. If that had applied over the whole season we'd have got 115 points and won it by a mile.

To my mind it's no coincidence that our form started to improve not long after Ben Garner was appointed as his assistant manager

Whilst adding some better players in areas that we were pretty weak (goalkeeper and a proper target man at centre forward) and bringing James Bree back into the squad helped, giving TE another coach has made a difference too

Fail we may, sail we must

Both Peretz and Larin turned out to be far better than I’d thought, playing a back 4 and the getting Bree back all made a difference.

After a few dodgy games at 1st Peretz is now arguably our best goalie for a while. Not just his saves but also his presence seems to rub of onto the defence. I notice the last few games he’s even been passing on advice to manning before he took his free kicks.

Larin has got 8 goals now and that physical presence we have been missing.

Not sure who’s idea it was to farm Bree out but we spent around £3 million on the lad from Brentford when Bree has proven to be just as good , albeit injury to Roerslev probably ment we didn’t see the best of him.

Since going back to a back 4 Harwood-Bellis is back to the player he was 2 seasons ago in the championship .

The biggest difference was getting rid of Still though he has to be up there as one of our worst managers of all time. We effectively had a 6 point “deduction” because of him.

That's a big shout to say it's not all about Tonda replacing Still.

I'l take your point about the January recruitment certainly helping the situation, but someone's still (excuse the pun) got to be captaining the ship. And who's to say that the new recruits would have done as well under a different manager.

Back in November there was talk of the season being over in terms of promotion and some fearing a relegation fight. Everything changed 180 as soon as Tonda was appointed.

Totally agree. Still, with the money we spent on players (players who are actually excellent but looked useless under Still), has to be the worse manager we have ever had.

It's true about the squad improvement in January but Still had a whole pre-season to realise we needed a new goalkeeper, a new tall striker, to realise we should play with a back 4, to realise Bree should not have gone out on loan, and to realise you don't drop your captain Stephens and to realise you don't play Fellows at right back and leave Azaz on the bench and need I go on. Still, just like his brother at Watford, who have plunged down the league, was utterly terrible. You can see on the pitch now how good Fellows, Azaz, Jander, Bree, Wellington, Charles etc are. Still had these players at his disposal

The players knew Still was hopeless and you could see it on the pitch, with players not even bothering - you could tell they were p!ssed off. Yes, improved squad but they love Tonda, you can see their million per cent effort on the pitch now with a manager they clearly enjoy playing under and actually, he just plays all the right players in the right positions.

Controversial opinion but I’d argue tonda has achieved what should’ve been done with this squad, not over performed.

Take out the cup run - which was excellent - this squad should’ve been top two if not winning the league, and all the last six months has shown to me is that is the case.

How Still managed them so poorly is beyond me, but makes a very strong case as to why statto’s like him and martin aren’t the solution.

I knew Still had to go and knew he was a hopeless fraud. The players were playing like p!ssed off ballerinas on the pitch. Tonda, has done an incredible job. I was wrong to think he might not be the answer, wrong to doubt such an inexperienced manager but he has been brilliant. The performances on the pitch have been brilliant, really top draw and the players love him. The performances on the pitch, the sheer effort tell us everything we need to know.

In the time we have had Tonda, haven't we got more points per game than Cov, Ipswich etc and they got promoted?

I don't just enjoy the wins, I love the performances. We win by 3, 4 or 5. We attack, we take risks, we play with courage. I love what Tonda has done for this club, which was made very hard for him with the start we had. Ultimately though, and I take the point that he will be judged by whether or not we get promoted.

Things didn't change 180 just with Tonda. He changed us from a relegation side into a mid table side with some great early results, but if you actually look at the record, we were slipping back to relegation form and Tonda was struggling a bit until the squad changes arrived.

I credit him with being a big influence on the squad changes too. I'm not criticising him. Far from it. But, without the squad changes, I doubt we'd be in the play offs. That's just based on the facts of what our results were.

The squad from January is totally different to the squad from August. That August squad could never have got promotion.

There's the obvious changes but also:

- Cam Bragg is now a player
- Stewart, Downes and Edozie are now available
- We now have fit full backs and the ability to defend set pieces without 3 CBs so we've been able to switch to a back 4 and that has been key.

Squad changes that presumably Tonda had a big say on, in January whereas Still had the whole summer to knock on the chairman's door and ask for a decent goalkeeper and tell him please don't send Bree on loan etc.

As the players say after every game, Tonda looks at every detail and gets it just right.

He won 6 of his first 7 league games. With a team that had had a traumatic PL season, followed by winning only 2 games in the 13 under Still.

If that’s not a 180 turn around, I’m not sure what is.

With the same players that Still had. The players downed tools for Still and I get why. He was hopeless and the players knew it. And bizarrely it must run in the family with Ed Still.

I agree. Do you think though had Tonda been the Leicester manager, he’d of got a tune out of them ??

As I said, great early results but then some relegation form after that until the squad changes. In your terms he did a 360 turn around and was heading back the way he came before doing a proper 180 when he had the squad he needed.

Nope the problems at Leicester run much deeper than the team or manager, they’re a club in crisis and we’ve been there before and know unless the ownership changes you’re f*ckex

I guess we'll never know how the season would have progressed without the new recruits.

I prefer to see the 7 games around Christmas as a wobble. In that period we played Cov, Boro, Millwall and Hull (together with Brum, Norwich and Oxford) so 4 of the other 5 who finished in the top 6.
