Fair point about Stewart, but the same could be said about Downes, he had scored in the Bundesliga twice in just 173 minutes played as Koln were relegated.
The next season he scored 10 goals in 21 starts and 8 as sub in Bundesliga 2.
Ross Stewart never really got going till he was 26 when he scored 24 goals in League 1 for Sunderland, then followed that up with 10 in 12 games in the Championship before his injury.
We did not buy long pedigree in Steward, we bought a short period of success at Sunderland.

We know Larin is more like a 70 minute player than 90, Downs did a few 90 minutes in Bundesliga 2.
But to partner Larin we don't need a 90 minute striker, Stewart was never that,

But can you compare Bundesliga 2 with the top echelons of the Championship which is what we should be aiming for
But with the current lack of movement in (yes, a while to go yet) and based on last season's performances by Downs , even noting your positive vibes, he does not seem to be the answer. Really hope you're right but cannot see it at the moment
It has nothing to do with how our season ended but I just feel like I need a break from football. For me the season starts all too early and this year with 6 weeks of the World Cup it never ends. I suspect it is an age thing but I used to be able to say that is the football season over, some summer and then we start again at the end of August (usually around bank holiday).

I was disappointed that Stewart left, but overall he wasnt a success as a signing. We basically could only play him for 1 of the 3 seasons and that was provided he only played half a match a week.

Could Damion Downes yet turn out to be a success after all it took Ross Steward 17 appearances to get his first goal
There's no way Downs can replace Stewart. Different types of player and Stewart has miles more ability.
When Stewart started with us, he didn't even play as a CF. He played wide left and other places where he didn't belong. I don't think Rusty actually wanted a CF who could hold the ball up because that would have encouraged defenders to hit the ball up field, instead of passing sideways between themselves like he wanted. Stewart would never have been a success at all at Saints if Rusty was still manager. Rusty probably couldn't see the point in a centre forward because we were supposed to pass the ball into the net on the 217th pass.
