| Best Southampton V Pompey Game You Have Been Too 09:36 - Oct 5 with 1534 views | SaintNick | Home or away. Home for me has to be either 27th September 1975 when we slaughtered them 4-0 . Away is the FA Cup tie in 1984, if you aren't going to slaughter them, then you beat them in the last minute, made sweeter by the fact that it was in time added on for them hitting Mark Dennis on the head with a coin thrown from the North Stand and as the ball went in for Steve Moran you can clearly hear them singing on the Match of the Day footage, "scummers scummers here we come" as they thought they had the replay | |

Nick's match report is here for those of you who weren't fortunate enough to be there that day: Home. 1996. The 3-0 FA Cup win was so easy and so humiliating for Pompey's little group of fans in their away section at the end of the East Stand, who were mainly middle class season ticket holders. The Pompey players, especially the ones who had to play on the wing, looked terrified that day and just wanted to get out of there. Probably the most dominant home atmosphere I've seen in a south coast derby. A repeat of that on Sunday would be good. [Post edited 5 Oct 11:03]

In 1996 the Pompey players admitted that they literally s*** themselves coming down the stairs in the Dell tunnell as they could hear the noise which ratched up a notch or two when they came out

There was no way back for them and it was the biggest spare I’ve ever had 9000 saints fans going absolutely mental I ended up on the floor about five rows down almost got crushed to death ffs😎 thisjust about beats Shane Long’s winner at Anfield to put us through to Wembley but not much in it. The second best away has to be in 1976 when Channon virtually relegated the skates but I have to admit as a 15 year old nipper I was bricking it especially seeing half the Fratton end make their way towards us at the end. Home- the FA cup game at The Dell 1996 when we hammered them 3-0. I remember Jim Magilton scoring . The skates were as quiet as church mice up in the east stand upper. [Post edited 5 Oct 12:33]

Not that any of them would admit it now but in 96 their away support actually sat down, so it wasn't just that they made no noise. My top three would be, 2019 4-0, an absolute demolition and i actually think Ralph saved them further humiliation because we would've won by more if he hadn't taken some key players off. League Cup game at St Mary's when they booed the minutes silence for ted bates, i think that's the most evil i've heard st mary's and the noise from whistleing every time tehy touched the ball was deafening. And one that's more about a single player than anything else, the 3-0 in 2003 if for nothing other than little Marian's goal, which is still one of my favourite ever goals for the club. Weirdly 96 was a bit of a let down for me as it was just too easy, they never really showed up either on the pitch or in the stands and we took them apart, it's a shame le tiss didn't score too

It was such an atmosphere, glorious result and consequently a glorious day. Yes, we may have had better and more convincing wins but that cup tie was something special.

Whenever we scored especially in away games back then, it was complete bedlam. Could list many games when this happened, the elation, camaraderie as you hold someone up as the crowd surged in all directions & then looking for your mates as you’ve ended up several yards away on the terrace, grinning like a the proverbial cheshire! The1984 cup game last minute winner is probably the best in terms of winning it in the last minute. We had a 3 nil win at St Mary's too at christmas time, after having beaten them in the cup wasn't it in the same week? Those two games were both easy wins I.seem to remember. Wasn't Strachan manager? Rememeber all singing the Shaking Stevens classic Merry Christmas Pompey Scum in the Northam.

What a feeling when Steve Moran scored Stood next to the fence and collected a few direct hits from their coin throwing - the bananas went towards the pitch ! That was my first real memory of watching their faces contorted with rage...then sheer disappointment. Lively old affair afterwoods as well Shame a few didnt get back to Southampton for a few weeks though.
| Best Southampton V Pompey Game You Have Been Too on 18:58 - Oct 5 with 806 views | Wints76 | My old man wouldnt take me in 84 as he "didn't want me in the way". Not that he ever took me anyway, but I did want to go! I was only 10 though 96 was my first win and it was all pretty easy. Remember all the pubs in town being shut and having to go to the Two Brothers pub (Bitterne?) where I got spectacularly drunk. The 2-0 League Cup win was great. Probably the edgiest atmosphere SMS has had. The 4-0 League Cup win was great fun as well. Fratton Station afterwards in particular | | | |

The Maple Leaff opened for the 96 game. Unofficially……. Unfortunately I didn’t start going in there until a year or so afterwards to have known what a top place it was.

| Best Southampton V Pompey Game You Have Been Too on 11:42 - Oct 6 with 259 views | SalisburySaint | Has to be thej same two games for me Nick The whole atmosphere for 84 cup game from leaving Salisbury on our coach, walking from Fratton station to ground, the shear hatred in the ground, coins being at us and players, bananas at Danny Wallace, the Biley miss, then just as the Skates started singing Scummers, Scummers here we come, we broke away and Steve Moran got the winning goal. Afterwards loads of scuffles outside Fratton station waiting for coaches to arrive , and then a night of celebrations back in Salisbury The 1975 game at Dell was great as we hammered them, and I think it poured with rain, so all the Pompey lads got soaked watching their team losing | | | |
