Actually agree with you here. It’s happening all the time across the media with sensationalist headlines like cases going up 150% in some area or other when that’s just a few cases. It goes the other way too with ridiculous headlines a few weeks ago about the public being able to do whatever they want, and Boris declaring the summer has begun etc. Then the same papers two weeks later moan that beaches are packed.

I’d actually forgotten there are two different boards on this site, it’s not exactly obvious. Usually these types of forums use proboard type setups where it’s completely clear, so no wonder everything merges together here. It doesn’t really matter as there are only about 10 regulars here anyway.

No idea where that data is from. If true it’s clearly positive news for the Hampshire area, but not all areas are fairing so well. I guess the problem is the daily infection numbers have gone back to above 700, it’s 816 today. So broadly things are just about controllable. But it won’t take much for things to spiral again. Clearly we have elements of the population who have no civic responsibility at all and think nothing of going partying or not social distancing by having their mates over. It’s these idiots ruining it for everyone else.

The problem with Reed is he had the unsavoury task of making money for Kat. So in that respect it was in the main a job well done. He did it though in what appeared to be quite a devious way, at least that’s if you believe Fonte’s account of how he left.

Is he any good? Have to say I’d not heard of him until we were linked.

£5m plus KWP sounds about right. That’s probably actually more than a good deal as imagine If Hoj went on loan somewhere that’s all we’d get. I’d guess KWP is worth about £10-12m as he’s young and English, and has proven capable in the premier league. But I don’t really rate Hoj so I’m probably biased and just want shot of him.

I’m growing to like our mysterious sponsor. Far better having some weird faceless entity that appears not to make or do anything than a weird faceless gambling entity. If it turns out LD sport don’t do anything at all then it’s as good as simply part of the shirt design.

It’s not a red herring at all. London, New York, Paris and other global cities have higher density and transient populations than Wellington or Edinburgh. Per head of population is simply a way to compare areas that are different sizes, and don’t address the ease of transmission in those areas. If you take things a stage further the world’s mega cities like Mexico City or Johannesburg are even harder to control and the spread is going to be far quicker than a rural town in NZ, which could easily be isolated by some fencing and a poster of a flaming galar. Therefore avoiding the spread to the next farmstead a few miles down the track.

Howe Has Left Bournemouth
at 10:30 2 Aug 2020

They’ve spent an absolute shīt load and most of that on dross. Howe must take a fair bit of the blame for that. I get he likes attacking attractive play but that is a bit one dimensional. I’d take Ralph over Howe every time.

Lallana Signed For Brighton
at 16:28 29 Jul 2020

Didn’t Lallana angle for a move a few times before he actually left. I’m sure there was at least once he said he wanted to move. What grated was the signing of that Liverpool shirt while still apparently a saints player and his leaving at a very difficult time for us. There was zero effort to spin the transfer by saints or Lallana, and when Lallana tried with his full page spread in the Echo it made things worse. As it turned out things worked out well for him and saints but he lacked class and I doubt he’ll ever get invited back in years to come in the way Lambert and even Yoshida will. That’s a shame for him but I’m sure he’ll cope.

Transfer window

A CB if Salisu isn’t a certain upgrade on Stephens/Bed, a defensive midfielder, Walker-Peters on a decent length deal and maybe a creative attacking option to replace Boufal who has surely had enough chances. I worry Armstrong is in the form of his life and might not repeat it next season. But right now there are many things to be positive with saints and Ralph.

Ward-Prowse to sign new deal

He’s been superb this year and has improved no end. At this moment tying him to a big long contract makes good sense. Of course things can change in football but he deserves a new deal.

Surely Sky would be better off making the premier league more appealing to British audiences? After all the more global and successful it becomes, arguably the more they have to pay for UK rights.

Covid Figures Exaggerated

This is what’s wrong with any debate about the NHS. Instead there are 3 questions:

1. Service provision - what do you get for your taxes?
2. What are the outcomes?
3. Who delivers the services?

I don’t care in the slightest about 3.

Take GPs, GPs are private businesses who take money from NHS England and they make in many cases a decent profit. Not all but many do. So where’s the outcry that British GPs are stealing ‘our’ NHS funds? If a foreign probably multi national healthcare company can bid for a contract, whether it is a group of GP practices or a hospital cleaning contract, well what’s the problem with that?

The debate should be about outcomes! The NHS has some of the worst outcomes in the developed world for things like cancer detection and survival. Who’s to say these Johnny Foreigners might even improve services?

Worth adding foreign companies aren’t ‘buying the NHS’. They are rather having the opportunity to bid for time limited contracts in receipt of services delivered.

Covid Figures Exaggerated
at 20:08 19 Jul 2020

Those figures are wrong, the BBC is woefully inaccurate yet again. Let’s take the national bowel cancer screening programme shall we? Since March when it was stopped about 650,000 screens have not happened and that’s because there wasn't the capacity to process the samples or deal with the new diagnoses. Of those 650k there would be expected about 2,500-3,000 positives. I could pick for you plenty of other examples.

Plus, there will be plenty of deaths from people in the NHS system who’s treatment has been stopped or euphemistically ‘parked’ due to doctors and other clinical staff being seconded to covid activities.
