| Game Venues Could Be Kept Secret When Football Returns on 13:41 - May 1 by SaintNick | So let me get this right, millions of people in this country still have to go to work for minimum wages to keep the country running but you are saying that a footballer being paid £80,000 a week and being asked to play a game of football in the most sterile conditions in the country whilst being regularly tested with the best medical facilities should not be "Forced" to work. I.m sorry but people are frothing at the mouth at football returning without realising the actual hypocrisy of it all. If a normal person can sit at a supermarket till for £10.50 per hour not knowing who is standing 3ft away the other side of the conveyor belt, but has to do so, not only to feed her own family but to ensure that the rest of us can buy food then Im damn sure that a professional footballer can "RISK" their own lives for a measly £80k a week. Good god it's almost slavery This post has brought home the fact that people are losing a grip of reality |
At my supermarkets the check out ppl r behind a big plastic clear board, they also have gloves, face mask and have hand sanitizer, they also don't need physically touch potentially 30 other players or need an ambulance, police, or to be a priority on tests when the majority of infected ppl or potentially infected ppl, or NHS staff, or any other workers who are key to us getting food. Mark my words, the population will be angry if football resumes when NHS staff are still not being tested after every shift.. You know the ones saving life's not chasing a God dam ball....

| Game Venues Could Be Kept Secret When Football Returns on 15:41 - May 1 by kingslandstand1 | I'm with you on that one 22. Give Pool the title as they deserve it (hurts to say that), let Leeds and WBA come up with no relegations, don't have a League Cup next season, but relegate 5 next season with 3 coming up and back to status quo with hopefully the realisation that football is not the b all and end all for the overpaid brats and do some proper negotiations not blackmailing of clubs by the players |
This is probably the best solution. Promote West Brom and Leeds. Give Liverpool the title, no relegation. If we start playing at neutral grounds, it becomes unfair in another way. Brighton for example have Liverpool, Man City and Man U at home. On a neutral ground they might, probably would get less points than they would have done with the home crowd and could get relegated. It's not right to relegate teams after playing games at a neutral ground, when they should have had home advantage. I can't see a way out of this other than to cancel the season. "The Premier League has been encouraged by government to do all that it can to try and get the season completed, and feels duty-bound to do so. …..There was no discussion about voiding the season." It certainly sounds like there is a lack of perspective. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52500593

They would need 40k tests to resume and complete the 92 games. So that’s nearly half of the tests that have been completed to date to protect a population of how many 65millon people, so that football can continue. It’s obscene and as 99.9% of people on here and throughout most football forums, it’s completely out of perspective. The notion that fans are going to have improved mental health and morale due to the return of football is based on no evidence. The only reason for football to resume is due to money.

That quote from BBC News - "encouraged by government to do all that it can to try and get the season completed" - suggest that it may also be seen as a positive propaganda exercise. If the government just said, there will be no major sporting events in May or June, so you can start again with the new season in the autumn, it wouldn't be dragging on like it is.

That’s an interesting article. So in order to let football commence, at least 40k of testing and the depriving the NHS and nursing homes of vital PPE. Players and managers to be consulted, who will never sign up. Lots of the hypothetical scenarios mentioned in the article that Nick was quick to dismiss. For instance players contracts finishing and players faking injury so they don’t play.

Makes no sense to void this season. What guarantee do we have football starting again in August? What happens if the virus kicks in next winter? Void another season? Don't worry about French, Dutch Leagues etc calling it a day, no ones interested. Doubt fans will be allowed back in grounds till next year, so why rush to void it? Finish this season, if necessary void 20-21 season, surely one complete season is better than 2 voids.

Yes, there are further questions which aren't being answered. We won't be able to play with crowds until a vaccine is found. So, unless we play behind closed doors at some point, football can't begin until August 2021, when we "might" have a vaccine. So, if we void the season are we all happy to not see any football at all, to not see any films in the cinema, to not have a meal out, to not visit the pub for another whole year? It comes down to the same thing. Do we allow pubs to go bust, businesses to go under etc because you couldn't possibly open pubs without a risk of people getting the virus. Not saying we should or shouldn't but what should we do? Voiding the season, yes seems like the thing to do but if we do, then yes we have to void the next one as we know there won't be a vaccine for months possibly years. And likewise, we can't open anything which involves gatherings. So do we wait for a year, possibly longer before beginning football again and doing anything or do we try to get life and football back in the safest way possible? [Post edited 2 May 2020 22:50]

You can't swap and change the fundamentals of a football league season during a season. Take the talk of neutral stadiums being used to finish this season challenges the results and said results can and will be challenged, can't take away home advantage for teams... Can't stop fans going either because of the moral boosting and how much they help the team. Finishing the season will just bring clubs to challenge the fairness of the competition and bring the game into disrepute, home and away advantage is real... Can't remove home and away advantage during a season... Starting a season with out fans? And doing the full season? Sure... A full season at neutral venues? Sure.. Its fair, can't swap and change things mid way. The season is dead, voided it already, no competition left, just fixtures that are not completed l, season died when it was suspended for an unknown duration...
