I saw that as well and thought it must be April 1st or something. I see the Beeb for some reason are saying what it is, even with an initial and 5 asterix's, no doubt to keep their laughable credibility, but as you say, it was a dog ffs

If it is offensive to call another person by that name, why is it not offensive to call an animal by that name? Especially as the dog was black.

This is old news. This film was finished some time ago and the producers have been struggling over Gibson’s dog’s name ever since as it’s the ‘N’ word which is clearly massively offensive. Surely the easy way around this is to call the dog something else with an explanatory ‘rider’ in the credits?

Poll: Which manager would you prefer Saints to have?

Yes, indeed. Nymphos With Attitude, straight outta Southcompton...

I’ve just read the OP and the plaque should remain the same I think.

It is offensive if used now or in a film shown now. But if on an historic plaque it should remain- that was the dog’s name. History shouldn’t be rewritten even if ugly, that’s what communists and Hollywood does!

I love Labs I'm on my 3rd ( all non black I should add ) and they are as soft and crazy as Fek. Love this from article .

"Kris Hendrix, campaigns manager at the RAF Museum, said the dog - which the BBC is not naming - was a "drinking buddy" for squadron members and would consume litres of beer before passing out."

Remember there was a war with bomber command suffering some of the highest fatality rates of any unit so -

"He was hit by a car and killed on 16 May 1943, but his death was kept from the airmen as it was feared they might see it as a bad omen.

Mr Hendrix added: "It was such a famous dog, it was such a famous squadron and that meant the grave has been kept until today."

So his name has been erased from history....

Trust no one in a circus.

Because go back and read the BBC link again - and then read the very last two paragraphs by Sir Edward Leigh... you absolute snowflake.

Infact - I'll save you the time precious:

Sir Edward said he had written to the station commander of RAF Scampton about the change.

In his letter, shared with the BBC, he said: "Undoubtedly we are both more sensitive and more sensible today when it comes to the delicateness of racialist and derogatory terminology which had been used with unfortunate informality in the past.

"I am, however, very fearful of our ability today to erase or re-write history. The past needs to be explained, taught about, and learned from - not re-written."

This may seem a stupid question, but you do hear black guys calling each other the N word even now in films etc so why do they not find that offensive?

It’s a weird one, but by taking ownership of it it takes the power away. For example, we can slag off Saints but supporters of other teams can’t.

Perhaps they can employ a dyslexic sign writer to make him a new plaque.

Growing up there was a couple of dogs on our estate who were called by the same name, think it was quite common. Ours was one of those estates that dogs wandered around freely and when the owners used to call it in for whatever my mate, the only black lad on the estate, used to lose his shit.

We had a black lab called that as well on the close but it got changed to Nipper. We also had another Lab called Bruno , I'm not sure if that would be offensive nowadays or not.

Or they could rename him Nigel, like Monty Don's dear departed canine companion.
