It shows the pitch is not a total green top. Very strange selection with Parkinson and Mahmood out for Bailey and Jones, especially as Wells bowled 15 overs in the first innings and Lamb only four. I get Mahmood been rotated and suspect it will be Anderson's turn next game. Lengthening the batting line up also makes sense but Jennings could have opened with Balderston pushed down the order.

Good day really for Lancs as I don’t think they would have chased down that total. Wonder if jimmy will play this week or if England/Stokes will want to limit his time. I would expect him to perhaps play 1 of the next 3 county games assuming Stokes wants him in the first test |  | | |

Would be a decent shout for the white ball formats. Not sure who would be best for the test team coach. Haven't worked out yet if the batting issue is because the players aren't good enough, or it's what's between their ears when it comes to shot selection. Or both ! | | | |

A really good recovery after losing two early wickets and supposedly a bit of a green top. On a less important level McCullum has been appointed England test coach on a four year deal. An interesting appointment, as I would have thought he would have been more suited to the one day role, but time will tell. He has gravitas but his only major coaching experience has been in T20 competitions. I suppose if you get the ethos and work ethic right international players should need very little 'coaching' and any technical work will probably be done with the respective specialist coaches. | | | |
