BEST ALBUM on 21:43 - Sep 13 by hubble

Some superb suggestions in this thread, but if there was only one album I could have on my desert island, I guess it would have to be this..

Brilliant choice. Hard to choose just one but this would certainly be on my short list of 2 or 3.

As someone else mentioned, could easily name 30, but off the top of my head…

Sex Pistols - NMTB
Love - Forever Changes
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Wire - Chairs Missing
Caravan - In The Land of Grey and Pink
The Cramps - Smell of Female
The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette
Belle & Sebastian - The Boy With The Arab Strap
The Stranglers - Black & White
The Specials - The Specials
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury

"Lifeforms" by FSOL is worthy of consideration in my humble opinion. It's otherworldly and atmospheric yet still musical and full of twists and turns. An astonishing composition, listening to it, as I am now (on costly disc), is like being whisked away on an armchair ride through alien worlds.

Asia is a good shout but I would pick their first album. Obviously, not everyone likes AOR but it's one hell of an album.

"In the region of the summer stars" by The Enid is a cracker, an album of classically inspired prog packed with variety, in which every piece is strong and engaging..

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

BEST ALBUM on 22:14 - Sep 14 by Ned_Kennedys

Can’t believe Simple Minds have had the most mentions in this thread lol.

I love vinyl albums and have an eclectic taste: some of my favourites not already mentioned:-

Asia - Alpha
King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown
Blackstreet - Another Level
Buzzcocks- Love Bites
Cypress Hill - Black Sunday
The Datsuns - The Datsuns
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
Death In Vegas - The Contino Sessions
Deftones - White Pony
DJ Muggs & GZA - Grandmasters
Earth, Wind & Fire- I Am
George Michael - Older
Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel
Ice Cube - The Predator

Could probably name another 20-30 really.

One man’s soup is another man’s medicine Ned.
With you on Death in vegas , George Michael and Buzzcocks.

I don't have one definitive 'best' album, wouldn't even consider myself a hip-hop fan, but this one definitely up there:

Iconic.

Alexander O'Neal debut. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis could do no wrong around this time.

Luther Vandross - The Night I Fell In Love.

Will Downing debut.

Beastie Boys - Paul Boutique

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions.

Great picks! I did think one of the first two TFF albums - or both - could be a contender. INXS is not my sort of thing but it's undoubtedly top quality. If that Shinedown album is better than the superb "Planet Zero," it must be quite something. I'll give it a listen.

Yep, I was struggling to choose between the first two TFF. I think I was just the right age for angst in the 80's hence The Hurting.

I've loved every Shinedown album. Planet Zero is cracking and if you like it, I think you'll love Attention, Attention. Monsters is one of my all-time favourite songs. Their breakthrough, The Sound of Madness, is also great. Enjoy : )

Enjoyed scrolling through people's choices but it's impossible for me to choose 1, 10 or even 100 albums.

However, it's very good to see a mention of the 1967 Love album 'Forever Changes' on which the song, 'Live and Let Live', has one of the most original opening lines: "Oh, the snot has caked against my pants, it has turned into crystal."

Almost impossible to name 1 and this 5 will make me think of another 5 that should be included but, for now,...

Pearl Jam - Ten
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Squeeze - East Side Story
Donald Fagan - The Nightfly
The Blue Nile - Walk across the Rooftops

Now I’m nearly 60, I would say Solti’s Ring Cycle, but from my vinyl-buying days, a few that haven’t been mentioned…
PIL - Metal Box
Dexy’s Midnight Runners - Searching For The Young Soul Rebels
Comsat Angels - Sleep No More
Misty - Live From Counter-Eurovision 1980
Talking Heads - Fear Of Music
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes
The Fall - Dragnet
Orchestre Baobab - Pirate’s Choice

I don’t think I need to answer this question.

But if I did

Cookin on the Roof by Roman Holliday would be in there somewhere.

Apologies to DaneHoop, he called Searching for the Young Soul Rebels already.
BexleyHoop…Handsworth Revolution better than Tribute To The Martyrs? Like saying Graham was the more talented of the Wilkins brothers!

Years ago I read an interview with Arthur Lee where he stated that the success of The Beatles hadn't surprised him as he had been writing songs like theirs before them!

Quite a character.

What a great and massive response to this thread.

i said one album because i knew, and me as well, would have not only 30, but 100's of albums to choose from.

but there is only one that you keep on playing, whether down, happy or got plenty of time.
naming more than one is too easy......come on chaps/lassies its not that hard.

Mine and one of my late dad's favourites and one of the best 60's albums.

Whenever I listen to it I feel good. It lightens me (getting back on topic)
