Remaining Away Games 14:04 - Feb 4 with 1907 viewsSouthamptonfan

Some of these allocations for tickets seem really small. Only 2000 tickets for Ipswich away will be nowhere near what we would take. In the build up to the final few crunch games, demand for tickets is going to be unreal. What do we think will get you a ticket, 5 plus away games?

Bristol City - Sold Out

West Brom - Sold Out

Birmingham - Usual allocation = 2000 (This has changed from game to game, as they have been rebuilding during the season)

Leicester - Usual allocation = 3000

Ipswich - Usual allocation = 2100

Blackburn - Usual allocation = 7500

Cardiff - Usual allocation = 2200

Leeds - Usual allocation = Leeds tend to give the allocation that they receive, up to a maximum of 3000. But for such a huge game, will they do the dirty on us and only give 2000 tickets?

Blackburn away could be a great day out, with potentially a huge following going up there.

Leeds could probably get away with the smaller allocation on ‘police advice’ it’s a classic excuse relied on many times in the past by various clubs. The scenario they would paint, if it is to be the decider, is their (ahem) ‘genuine concern’ for our fans if it all goes Pete Tong for Leeds, they would claim a larger allocation would be more difficult to guarantee keeping safe from the local neanderthals who would be somewhat peeved and therefore be extra sensitive to having the absolute pi@@ ripped out of them after the game. Of course, the real reason is maximising home advantage.

Very true. Ewood Park still has to be the scene of THE most hilarious pre-match entertainment that I have seen offered up by any club in all the years I have been going to Saints games. Feb 1984 we played Blackburn away in the FA Cup 5th round on a Friday night back in the early days of live TV coverage. Blackburn’s pre-match entertainment was a wannabe Houdini escapologist who entered the arena in a dinner suit. His trusty assistants proceeded to chain said not-Houdini up and put him in a coffin with a small explosive device, the device was activated, on went the coffin lid and the two minute countdown commenced…. Fast forward 1m 55s - still no sign of our man on the inside, worried glances were exchanged between assistants. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, chanted sections of the crowd - boom 💥 some cheer, others gasp. Assistants rush to open the lid and extricate a somewhat disheveled non- escapologist and help him from the pitch still lightly smouldering from the small explosion. Fuelled by several pints of local bitter it was hilarious. Knew someone who worked at the club at the time, the guy made a full recovery but wasn’t asked back. Ended the evening being taken out for a reet good curreh by my mate and a couple of other staff who who worked at BR accompanied by Noel Brotherton who owned a curry house in Darwen at the time.

2000 tickets seems so low. Do they sell out every game? Why would they leave seats empty? We gave them full amount.

The construction firm Upgrading St Andrews went skint last August so the Capacity of 29,409 is restricted to c. 21,000 pending completion of repairs.

Most matches there this season attracted crowds of around the 21k mark,
So although around 10%, no other visiting club would have got more.

Yes we gave them 3000, but we weren't selling out the ground at the time as the att was just shy of 29k, didn't make any difference, still beat them easy

Of course it won't be a sell out. They are a very fickle bunch those Blues fans, on their 3rd manager of the season and after tonight's defeat, may well end up flirting with relegation.

They took the full allocation at St Mary's because they were all on the Rooney band wagon. It was his first game in charge and we duly sent them packing back up the A34, with a 3-1 home win.

The fact that they brought a large following down south unfortunately has no bearing on the allocation they give us, or any other clubs for that matter. They have had extensive building work carried out to much of the lower tier at St Andrews this season, so they probably agreed to a blanket 2k limit for all away clubs.

Perhaps we should bear that in mind, should we both be in this division next season - along with the prices and allocations certain other clubs have offered us too.

Birmingham have now completed the building works so the. Ground is back up to full capacity.

As has been stated several times in the championship clubs only have to offer 2000 or 10% of capacity which ever is lower.

Birmingham, Westbrom, Sunderland, Ipswich, Norwich ( possibly Middlesbrough too) are all clubs that limit away fans to 2000.

Cardiff and Leeds very sometimes they limit to 2000 sometimes they will give 3000. Leeds for example only gave Ipswich 2000 due to Ipswich limiting Leeds fans to 2000 at Portman Road.

However plenty of clubs , Rotherham, Blackburn, Bristol City, Millwall, Coventry , Leicester , Preston, Stoke, Sheffield Weds offer more than 2000 to visiting fans.

You're right that Birmingham are now back up to full capacity. So the original question still remains, why would Birmingham and any club leave 5000 plus, empty seats, when they could make more money by selling to away fans? Are they so rich, that they don't want the extra money?

Blackburn sell up to nearly 8000 away tickets because like Birmingham they barely get crowds above 20 thousand. Ipswich, Sunderland, Leeds sell out with home fans, so yes that's understandable to then limit away fans as they would rather sell the tickets to their own fans . But if the ground is half full, I can't understand why clubs would turn down lots of money and we have to miss out on tickets when there are loads of empty seats.

Done a quick check on allocations other teams are currently receiving for away games

Leicester received just under 3,000 for Leeds, and Ipswich have received 3,213 for Cardiff and Leicester are giving away teams 3,000 and the Blackburn allocation should be more than 5,000

So the only remaining away game where we are likely to receive a 2,000 allocation is Ipswich, where it will be a mad rush to get tickets, otherwise regular away fans should be ok getting tickets for remaking games.

Also Leicester agreed a receiptical agreement with Leeds over ticket prices, which otherwise would have been £47, hopefully Saints have done the same. Also Cardiff tickets £24,
