Kolli 19:34 - Jan 11 with 6706 viewsWestbourneR

Showed he has what it takes again today, I felt. Really impressive from a 20 year old. Super sharp touch, great one touch link play and he's so strong.

Interesting to see which players looked comfortable at that level generally.

Sadly Kone looked out of his depth all game.

Thought Dunne did well but then go horribly exposed by Summerville for their second.

For me Madsen looks like a Premership class centre mid. Stood out all game as our Rolls Royce player.

Smyth was the big surprise IMO. Really held his own. Was pretty magnificent.

Yes to all of this but, it’s easy to forget, Kone is only 22 and, has just stepped up to the Champ after little time in the professional game.

Think Kone will be a better player next season, we need a CF to take the weight off of him for now.

Sniping at Kone is starting to get on my tits now.

We're halfway through the season and he's got 5 goals, which might not be stellar but would make him 2nd or joint-second top scorer in the last two seasons even if he was transferred tomorrow.

Also two assists which understates his contribution by generally putting it about (much needed at QPR, which is usually full of Nice Lads You Wouldn't Mind Your Daughter Bringing Home) and being a bloody nuisance to defenders.

Maybe he looks A Bit League One at times, well guess what, we signed him from League 1 and he's not yet had a full season at this level. He's going through the stages of brash confidence/nasty surprise for defenders, followed by opposition studying the video and countering his trademark moves, and now he''s in the Adapt To New Level phase. 2 goals in his last 6 games tells me he's getting there and I don't care of they come off his shoulder, arse or his spleen, they all count. Getting the ball into the net by any means is what it's all about for big awkward sods like him.

Streets ahead of Celar, Dykes, Frey (thanks for your service, but we all get old) Mac Bonne, Tyler Roberts, Sinclair Armstrong, Kelman, or Alfie Lloyd (for now anyway) who are literally all of our strikers for the three years before Kone who aren't called Ilias - and I've never slagged any of those off here, most of them were doing their best.

I agree. I know it's the internet, modern way, message board etc. But early in the season there were comments on here saying he's the new Ferdinand and lavishing praise on him. Now there's loads of comments saying he's not up to it. Like with many things the truth is somewhere in the middle. It is a shame burrell is out for a while, as kolli is starting to look good we could have three actual strikers in the match day squad who are decent.

Really don’t think that is the case.

He’s widely considered a nice lad. And after the incident with you know who at the training ground several of the players consoled him when he was visibly upset.

IMHO he comes over as a nice lad.

I went to the training ground to watch the development squad play Brentford last season. First team training had just finished and whilst others were changed and leaving in their cars, Kolli was the only one who walked over to the far side to watch the match and stayed right to the end of a 5-0 or 5-1 defeat.

In the warm up before the Sheffield Wednesday game, one of his shots missed the goal and smashed a spectator in the face. Kolli climbed into the crowd and seemed to show comfort and concern for the injury.

I didn't see the match yesterday as I was 'in the air' at that time but it's great to read he did well. I think he has great ability and potential.

I'm someone who hasn't seen the hype with Kolli, so fair play, he was excellent yesterday.

Don't really get the Kone slagging but to criticise him for yesterday seems strange, as he had a rough job for the team where he had to drop deep to link play to fix their defenders to give Kolli and Smyth space, and then get forward to do Burrel's pressing too.

I thought our forward press was excellent yesterday (,just a shame we often returned the ball so quickly) and Kone ran himself to dust executing it

He also scored, but I guess not in the right way? Bizarre take

I’ve been at the front of the Kolli Fan Club for years and was well happy with his performance yesterday.
Would have gone mental if he’d scored.

His quality is there to be seen and I hope he stays fit and in the squad going forward.
If he got double figures for goals that would be amazing

What I also loved was the support given to Rayan from the stands.
Endless choruses of he’s one of our own.
That’ll help a decent young lad immensely so well done everyone

If Kolli can stay fit between now and end of season, its the perfect window for him to develop. No relegation pressure, decent vibe around the place, just go out and play.

On Kone, still raw yes but Id say this is his acclimatisation period, needs to settle at this level. Hopefully we see what he is really about next season. That moment in the 2nd half where he plucked the ball out the sky, held off the defender and turned to slide Kolli through 1-1, only stopped by great keeper positioning, that was top CF play. More of that please.

Is this the name facts about Richard Kone game?

None of them change the fact he was poor today and struggled.

in his defence he was feeding on scrapes most of the game, felt he had a decent game considering who he was up against, held the ball well brought kolli into the game when he could issue as always was madson and hadyn were to deep to help with the lay offs thats been an issue all season for us.

not having burrell hurt us badly yesterday no real outball when under pressure.

It’s particularly noticeable at this level that even if our widemen get a 3 yard start on the opposition, within the next ten yards they will always get caught up with.

Decent pitch but at these moments it looked like those were running through treacle.

Kolli was the only one in the front four that looked like a potential premier league player. I’ll reserve judgment on Kone until we actually get behind defences.

Given Kolli's excellent recent performances and the appalling aerobic and muscle fitness of the squad (compared to whoever they're playing),I know who should be staying at the club longterm and who should be leaving.

I feel it just gives context to why he struggled a bit. People go on about his age but more importantly he was in non-league not so long ago. He will come good. He has had a fast track through the leagues and is almost learning on the job. Sometimes he holds the ball up to long and loses it but that is because up to now, he bullied lower league players. He will adapt to a higher level

I also think he is more a in and around the box striker. Not the quickest but has enough strength to hold the ball up, shield and give himself a yard to have a shot.

"I also think he is more a in and around the box striker."

I've banged on about this since he came. I'm still mystified why Stephan plays him as the second striker. His strengths are quite clearly suited to being a classic no 9.

I'm not trying to assassinate Kone's character or say he's a bad player - I just didn't think he played well yesterday. His hold up play was poor and stopped us getting up the pitch.

IMO.

I don't think it's just outrageous or nasty thing to say. Surprised by how defensive people get about it.

Impressed with Kolli yesterday.

Cannot agree with the criticism of Kone who put in a huge shift in a game which was especially difficult for a player of his type.

Although he should still have got that free header on target in the first half.

Kolli stood out to me.

He had the touch and technical ability to make it in the Prem. Today was a big moment for him and the club. He showed he has it.

At 20, he is a serious asset for the club, especially in our player trading/amortisation model.

Regardless of whether Koki is here, we need to be playing Kolli week in week out.

He needs games, experience and nurturing.

If he played most of next season and picked up 10 goals and 5-6 assists, at 21, we’d be looking at 10-20m in the current market for him.

Lots of “ifs” there, but we have to try to make that happen. Egos need parking and pride swallowing for the good of the club.

Great post . If he says fit we’ve got a real asset .
I love his arrogance and belief in his own ability.
But greedy at times but never afraid to have a go .
Will only get better.

Was absolutely different gravy yesterday, think it will be a huge moment for him.

To do what he did to Todibo, turning him inside out, Todibo has played for France - this guy can seriously play.

Also, he's actually one of our own. Here since the age of 8, he still is down Goals in Isleworth (where he played all summer) every Monday night watching his brother (also a player). This isn't someone we've picked up as a late team, he's actually done it all with us.

I know his family get involved and are a little outspoken, but at this point after that performance you've probably got to give him his props.

On Kone, not sure what people are expecting. He's still learning the Championship and he's up against the likes of Max Kilman. I thought when he brought it down from a goal kick and spun, playing in Kolli was top drawer, just a little too much on the pass. To find space and get infront of AWB, we're not talking about amateurs here.

Ps... I think Kollis brother was released by West Ham in the summer so maybe it was personal for him.

So pleased for Kolli, who should've played far more games for us than he has, supposedly due to some ridiculous fkn internal politics. Best goal involvements per game than any player we've had in a long, long time and he obviously loves playing for the Hoops.

As an aside, I saw a video on Tw@tter today of the goal celebrations and noticed Rayan giving it the crossed irons celebration to the West Ham fans. Love it when we have a wind-up merchant on our team!

Shit but local

Well put.

Knockers should lay off Kone, whilst he is still learning at this level. He is not the finished article yet. With good management and coaching he should improve and become a regular 15+ goals per season striker at this level, if not higher. He has 6 goals so far and only just past halfway into his 1st season in the Championship.

Edit: I forgot to add that he was up against experienced defenders and in some cases , international ones.

Dykes scored 12 in his 1st season and got steadily worse.

Jamie Vardy struggled until his late 20s when he joined Leicester and then took a few seasons before a more prolific spell in the Premiership.

Carlton Morris struggled to get goals until he joined Barnsley in his mid 20s and even then wasn't prolific, but he did improve whilst at Luton and now Derby.

I think Kone should be given time to improve before he gets criticised by fans.
