Morrison going out on loan 13:02 - Jan 13 with 5183 viewsEuroRanger

Seems a bit harsh to me, has looked decent when he's played. I guess Stephan is not a fan and now that Edwards is back in, he might not have a spot.

Leaves us a bit thin at the back, though, doesn't it? Are we going to rely on Smith / Akindeleni if we get a couple of injuries?

An odd one - unless there's a plan to cash in. But he's always looked a solid defender to me.

Anyway Smith / Akindeleni will have to step up some time, if we think they are that talented.

Apparently he has asked to go on loan as he wants first team football to get in the World Cup squad.

Club couldn't really say no as we have cover.

Maybe there is a recall option if we get in a bit of bother (more bother I should say) with injuries.

Been expecting this, and also wouldn't be surprised to see a similar story about Harvey Vale in the next week or so. I'm not sure Stephan really rates either of them TBH.

We are 14 points clear of the drop zone. We are only three points off the play-offs, but I'm not quite sure we're a PO team this season and with the injuries we've got now I suspect the next 6 weeks will drop us away from there. So, what's more valuable, Morrison sticking around and playing 5 games here, or going and playing 20 somewhere else?

We're not short at centre back. We've got Dunne and Edwards now who, fingers crossed, are going t basically play the next 20 games together. That's your pairing for the next two years you hope. They're covered by Steve Cook, who showed on Sunday that's absolutely fine. JCS, I know, lol, but still. That's four very good centre backs for the level. Sam Field can play there, Mbengue can play there. And your two best development squad prospects are supposedly Smith and Akindileni who are also both centre backs. You'd hope if we've got nothing to play for in the last ten games they might see some action.

depending on where he's going, good thing IMO.

It makes sense if he's not even third choice. And hopefully it means we get to see some of Smith and Akindeleni over the coming months.

Shit but local

Certainly a long shot considering he has no senior caps.

Yeh but if Scotland wait as long to get to another World Cup as it took them to get to this one he might be dead before he gets another chance so shoot your shot I guess.

Bit disconcerting he doesn't rate Vale as his boss sanctioned his signing.

Seems ludicrous considering he was warming up in the starting 11 a week ago before the injury. Surely the preference would be to play him and Edwards down the line? Given that Cook, who is still good, won't play as many games, and JCS is a myth and illusion, even with Edwards in you still keep Morrison available. But what do I know!

Never knowingly right.

Been saying since last season that Liam Morrison isn't of the level. He's too slight and weak, not quick and not all commanding or good in the air. Looks like Julien Stephan agrees.

Vale is a bigger shame for me. He looked like quite exciting technical player, big and strong with it, but his total lack pace is problem. He looks stiff to me. That broken back injury may have taken too much out of him.

Another factor is the World Cup solidarity payments.

We benefited at the last WC with Morocco's and Senegal's extended run.

If we get multiples players there (T Smith, Burrell, Hayden, Morrison, Dunne, P Smyth) it could be worth in excess of a million pounds to the club.

We always seem to forget Noah McCann and Jack McDowell when talking about our prospects at CB.

When Jimmy was talking about re-signing I think the talk was that the challenge was he wanted 4 years and we were only offering 3. Given he ended up staying, presumably that means we've basically got him until retirement, plus he's club captain. As long as he's fit (and to date he's very rarely injured) he's going to be starting every game for the foreseeable. The club is clearly very high on Edwards so he'll be first choice in the other slot.

Normally that's fine because you want a good third-choice CB for cover, but we already have Cook in that role, plus youth prospects, plus the ghost of JCS. Morrison's chances of playing regularly are pretty low. Why not send him out for the next few months, which keeps him happy, gives him competitive minutes we need him to be getting, and then re-evaluate in the summer when at least one player above him in the depth chart will be gone and he'll have hopefully played 15-20 more games of men's football than he has today?

I know I'm held to supernaturally higher standards of consistency, but it's amusing to note how Cook goes from running on fumes to fine and dandy in the twinkling of an eye for one or two. (He was always fine and played well against the Spammers.)

Both Morrison and Vale seem to be going backwards under JS, and I guess reading the tea leaves suggests neither are 'in his plans'.

And there's Alex Wilkie too. Smith and Akindileni seem the most likely of those 5 DS CBs to succeed at QPR but there's no certainty they will.

I like Morrison but if he can pick up 20-ish games in a successful competitive loan (rather than go gallumphing around Morecambe) it will benefit all concerned. If he is part of our future planning, then that works for us; if he's off, it makes him more of a prospect.

I think he's a decent player with some room for development, if he can get games under his belt.

We have had a few younger centre backs that i have felt have been decent but moved elsewhere, slightly unfairly.

Connolly, Gorks, Tilson, Grant Hall probably several more. We didn't get a great amount of money for Rob Dickie and I would have tried to have kept him also, but I think he was adamant he wanted to leave, I seem to remember.

Maybe Morrisson will be another in this category. I think he will have a decent career, but again, could see the player wanting a move too and understand that also. Shame for me, but a move on loan definitely makes sense at the moment and potentially a move away will follow.

Don't forget Saitosan and who knows if Kone or Kolli (no idea if Algeria qualified) might be late bets.

I’ve not seen anything of Tylon Smith to make any sort of call one way or the other. I’ll bow to your greater knowledge. I do like McDowell and think he should have a better loan than being at Bracknell Town.

We seem to have some kind of thing going with Bracknell. Not only is McDowell there, but Jack Coombes is too, and McCann was there late last year.

Let's not forget that Morrison is only 22. Still plenty of time for him to mature as a player.

I quite like him if I'm honest.

Vale situation is a mystery.

He has that rare ability to find an extra second or two of space that you don’t see at this level very often. Had high hopes for him but his form dipped briefly and he seems to have vanished.

I’m not sure even he knows his best position, that may be the problem.

Another one who’s crying out for a central midfield role that doesn’t really exist in our set up.

Morrison going out on loan on 18:53 - Jan 13 with 2039 viewskensalriser

Vale's being written off far too early. He needs a proper run of games to give us a better idea of where he's at - the catch being that he can't get in the team because he hasn't had a run of games.
