Shame if true

Big call by the club. As others have said, all it takes is an injury to RND, or anywhere at the back really, and we have a serious problem.

As Brian has said, it's hard to believe Field is causing trouble for the manager. So the only thing I can think of is that his wages are significantly too high for a squad player. I assume Hayden is on decent money too, but presumably a shorter contract.

Quote from Sam from Norwich website ""I know it's only a short-term [move] until the end of the season, but I'm really looking forward to it."

So maybe he´s coming back after the season. But of course if he impress there, Norwich may want to sign him permanently.

Personally i want him back next season

Well loaning him doesn't make a great deal of sense esp with the injury list. Fair enough sell for a profit as that's what club we are does anyone remember what we bought him for ?

He's not coming back as JS clearly doesn't rate him. Let's not forget that he started the season, but has rarely been seen since the 7-1 result. That says a lot.

As for his versatility that people keep mentioning, we have more CB cover, and he's not a very good LB as he's not left footed.
The entire team under JS has moved up a few levels, and he isn't good enough, unfortunately for him.

I think we should see this as a positive, it means we are improving.

OK he has his limits, esp in midfield playing the ball forward. But he's not alone there. I love Sammy, and personally he's a big miss. He's committed, strong, a good pro, loves the club, always puts in a shift. But most crucially he's one of the few players who stays fit. I always feel more confident defending a lead when he comes off the bench.
Can't see the criticism and reckon this is a dodgy call by the club. But he wants to play, and if he wants a move for that reason I respect him even more

Wonder what message boards would have looked like when we sold players like Marsh and Bowles....

Personally gutted by this like a lot on here. I think Sam was a top pro and gave 100% to QPR which is all you can really ask from a player

Think it is obvious that JS believes he has better options in the squad and that happens, and unfortunately some players will be in the peripheral... Sam

The very best to the lad, he deserves 1st team football and Norwich have got themselves a real bargain, which leads onto the loan without option deal... this is the strangest part to me

The pre pubescent X boys can post all the memes they want - players like Field don’t come around all the time. Look at the crew of Beale’s boys in that year compared to him. Chalk and cheese mentality, attitude, and guts. But those lads have highlights reels posted by ‘baller’ accounts?

All that said, if he wants to go (whether it’s club forced or not) he deserves to. Some players you can allow to sit on bench unhappy; Field deserves better than that for what he’s given us.

Good luck polite Sam.

So strange. You may not rate him as an amazing player, but if you can't see his contribution and professionalism and effort every time he stepped on the pitch for us, then I just don't get it.

I'm glad there is no permanent option to buy. Just like Cook and Dunne, these are the guys you need 4 or 5 of in any successful Championship team. Always available, always committed. It's all the flaky / unproven ones that remain that we should be looking to trade in and out, not proven, experienced, reliable performers.

Shipping Field out is not a sign that we are improving, in my opinion, it's a sign that the current manager failed to watch the whole of the last two seasons and realise that if you give Sam a run of games, he will always be one of the most important cogs in the team. Dropping him in and out the side? Not so much.

Good luck Sam, I hope you do well, persuade the management here they have made a mistake and come back to where you belong.

Always gave 100% when others around him didn’t. Never went missing and gave it his very best all the time. God knows we've had dozens over the years that barely even looked bothered.

Plus, he's been the right sort from day one. Good luck to him, never for the want of trying did he don the B&W.

I like Sam and think he’s a good squad player. But it’s unrealistic to expect him to hang about just for the odd sub appearance. As he said in his Norwich interview, he wants to play. When you think about some of the charlatans we’ve had at the club, he’s definitely been one of the better pro’s. Good luck to him.

Ideally...etc etc.
But the club have to balance finances, player morale, bringing on young assets etc etc
I really like Field, but he's been poor this season, imo. Hopefully he'll get the game time he craves, and deserves, at Norwich, and if they don't buy him he'll be putting himself in the window, at least.
Varane, Morgan, Hayden, Morgan and Ronnie see us well served in midfield, while Esqui's showing at Oxford was really positive. And Ronnie can cover there. We are in with a play-off shout this season, but pragmatically we're also building for the future.
It's a real juggling act, but I don't think this is a dropped ball, as such.

Did he come off the bench in the Wrexham game when we were winning 2:1?
Did he come off the bench to gift a penalty to Marti in the Leicester game?

Sam is a very good defensive player, stays fit and is one of the experienced players we need in the team. That he's played 19 games for us already this season indicates we may miss his availability if and when the likes of Hayden, RND, Cooke and Dunne cannot play during the rest of the season. Hope he gets the on pitch time he wants the rest of the season, and he is available to play for us next if we need him more which is possible. Otherwise he should command a decent fee it as it seems other Championship Clubs are interested in him, Norwich, Derby and Charlton all are apparently.

Even with Hayden rested and Varane out, JS didn’t start him. That means that we need 3 injuries to the group of Madsen, Hayden, Varane, Morgan. And we have Edwards. For Field and for club, didn’t make much sense staying if JS is not going to play him. You can’t make a plan for that amount of injuries….even us. Better he gets minutes elsewhere and we can all reassess. Based on CN comments on his contract extension (club approached Sam btw), I think they want him here for at least couple more years.

Sad to see him go. He has indeed been a good servant to the club and from what I can see a model professional.

But at 28, he is going to want regular first team football at, at least, this level.

As others have said, this is probably as much a decision by the player, as it is the club.

Just to make clear, that's not me. That account does represent what many of the younger 'ballers' think of him though.

So because he doesn't start in our best 11 I should be fine that he's going? He's also one RND injury away from being in my starting 11 btw.

As I said, if it's about giving him game time that he requested and deserves that's fair enough, otherwise I think it's a risk to allow characters like Field to leave your squad. Reliable, covers multiple positions, consummate pro, experienced, commited, etc. He's never given anything less than 100% for every minute he's ever played and I personally think players like that are undervalued, especially in this league, although seemingly not by multiple other clubs.

Every decision is not a possible negative, it's my opinion based on my feeling on the player. Frey went too, I happened to think that was a complete positive. Do you see how nuance works?

I am certainly not a Nourry lover, but I like his latest communication on the transfer window. A much-needed dollop of humanity and talking about the players properly rather than all that "progressing into zone#10" nonsense from before.

Although that bit about the Aussies and their physical development smacks a little of the infamous comments the England women's cricket coach made when we got slaughtered out there last year.

I think if we sold him this window I'd get that, bring in some money for a player unlikely to be a starter anymore, offers on the table for him as well from Derby by the sound of it but to loan him out when really I doubt Norwich will buy him in the summer once they stay up seems a really strange move.

For me you'd loan out Morgan this window, get him 10/15 games somewhere and keep Field as your back up to Hayden/Varane and cover at left back.

I find it bizarre we've given him two contract extensions in the last year and he was surplus to requirements by August this season.

Good Luck to him though, always gave his best for us, good solid player for us the last few years.

I mean in fairness the plan was to loan out Morgan but a good offer came in for Field and they had to pivot, especially as Field wanted to go and play.

There seems to be a general underestimation of how much they’ve spent and the need to recover funds.

With Varane injured and Hayden “rested” he didn’t start. So JS sees him as only playing if we have 3 injuries in central midfield. If the manager doesn’t want to play him, what can the club do? And he’s not a left back. Hes not comfortable there. We can’t talk about being a development club to not use Esquerdinha as reserve left back.

I don’t believe Field is happy not playing. So what option do the club have, unless you suggest they tell JS to play him more. Field is a great professional for the club but I also think it’s patronising to him to say: “stick around mate because you’re great to have around, you won’t play much but just good to have you there.”

Oh, no worries. Just thought I'd make it clear lol.

And for complete honesty, I do think Sam has been poor when he's played this season and I'm not surprised he's left this window but it can't be easy finding your form and rhythm when you're getting 15 minutes here and there. Obviously, he's been a great servant for us over the last few seasons but if the manager doesn't rate you, you're got no option but to leave.
