Saints have lost their appeal against the severity of their Spygate punishment, the club has now confirmed. The final remains between Hull City and Middlesbrough on Saturday, May 23
Statement from Saints: "Southampton Football Club has this evening been informed that the EFL’s League Arbitration Panel has upheld the sanctions imposed earlier this week. As a result, the club will not participate in Saturday’s Championship play-off final."
A reminder that, in accordance with EFL Regulations, the decision of the League Arbitration Panel is final. Saints cannot escalate their appeal. Their play-off expulsion and four-point deduction for next season remain in force. [Post edited 20 May 21:34]

An English Football League (EFL) League Arbitration Panel has dismissed Southampton Football Club’s appeal against their expulsion from the Championship play-off final.
The independent panel rejected the club's arguments, upholding the original sanctions regarding multiple breaches of EFL Regulations for unauthorised filming of opponent training sessions.
The ruling is final and binding, signalling an end to the "Spygate" saga.
Appeal Details & Confirmed Penalties:
Southampton admitted to spying on their semi-final opponents, Middlesbrough, as well as Oxford United and Ipswich Town earlier in the season.
They launched an emergency appeal on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that the initial punishment was "manifestly disproportionate" compared to previous English football penalties. The independent arbitration panel rejected this defence, solidifying the following sanctions:
Play-off Expulsion: Southampton remains permanently disqualified from the multi-million pound Championship play-off final.
Reinstatement of Opponent: Middlesbrough Football Club, whom Southampton originally defeated in the semi-finals, is fully reinstated and will progress directly to the final.

I accept the decision as we were bang to rights but the club have managed this whole affair terribly imo, they've been out smarted by a media savvy Middlesborough from the very start and controlled the narrative

Can't help thinking that our biggest mistake was to allow Boro to drive the timeline.
The issues of hearing and appeal in such a high jeopardy financial mess were all compressed in order to not compromise the game being played on Saturday come what may. We needed some shithousery legal delaying tactics to get the game called off while a real process was followed.
The EFL will be punished for establishing such a gap between the low and high of possible sanctions going forward
Already Hull saying they were preparing for us, not Boro, and will raise hell if they lose. Wrexham are saying if we are out the surely they get a shot as the 7th placed team.
