If Ramsay leaves I wouldn’t want to depend on Long .
Likewise feels we are light in the right back and central area of defense.
Not replacing Edozie , Robinson and Archer leaves light in the wide areas.

If we had Dom Ballard and Christoph Klarer, it would have been a very good window. How much did we get for those two? They're worth a hell of a lot more now. They're 2 players we could have continued to loan out until we needed them in our first team. There was no need to sell them for so little.
Charlie Taylor starred in Derby's win at Fratton tonight. He's another one, we could do with now. We let him go for nothing. [Post edited 2 Sep 0:13]

You're right, we are not as strong on paper. We have sold 60 million pounds worth of players, and spent approx 23 million. So we haven't spent all the money received. Schlotterbeck, I really like but probably not as accomplished as THB. The young lad from Forest is a loan, and will be learning the ropes. Who knows how good or not he will be. Stephens is a year older. We are short up front without Archer, Stewart, Edozie, Beroron Diaz and If Larin gets injured I think we have problems up front. Mubama will be hit and miss I feel. Peretz isn't as good this year so far. Charles is a big loss IMO. He scored vital goals last season. Will JWP fill that void? Possibly.
But, we have Tonda, who is a very strong manager. He makes players better. It's early days, we will probably become more efficient as time goes on so I am not sure yet whether our usual take the cheap option, will inhibit us in terms of points, come the end of the season. We might also strengthen in January again, like last season. It's not clear yet how much weaker, if at all, we will be. On paper we are weaker, but not sure how the season will pan out yet. |  |

Don’t get me wrong I’d have liked to have seen another striker but let’s see how we do
I wouldn’t put Charles in the starting player bracket. Okay he scored a couple of important goals but he was a backup player in midfield
Okay Stewart was a good player last season but we were having to plan games around keeping him fit. Let’s see how he does this season. In five games this season he’s made one 81st minute sub appearance. The other 4 games he hasn’t even made the bench | | | |

Shall we be really negative and look at it from a different perspective now knowing Dragan likes to look at the spreadsheets. We don't yet know if the FA are going to be sensible or absolute ar5eholes and maybe give Tonda a ridiculous ban meaning he leaves and we need another manager.

I've been otherwise engaged the last 6 weeks so maybe you all know the answer anyway but..
What's the Jander story ?..at the start of the window he was one of our jewels and we were resigned to losing him to a big boy for big bucks.
During window we hear nothing..nada..zip..
At the end of window he seems to still be here drawing his pay.

Right back we still have Roerslev, so I think we have two proven options there.
I would have liked to see an experienced central defender come in, but we have have 3 in Schlotterbeck, Stephens & Wood plus the youngster from Forest, so adequate with potential , but as I said would have liked to have seen one more in.
We still have 4 options out wide, Dobbin, Scienza, Fellows & Matsuki
Up front I think we have enough but I would have liked to have seen variation as we had last year with Larin/Stewart, i think Mubama is too similar to Larin, however we can also slot in Dobbin up front if we want.

After the playoffs I didn’t think I’d see Peretz, THB, Charles, Jander, Scienza, Stewart or Larin in a Saints shirt again
To have only lost 3 of them is very good considering
I think we’re slightly limited for options up front but we’ll just have to make the best of it and hope the young lads step up and take their chance |  |

To get automatic promotion we had to strengthen. But we're actually a bit weaker, not stronger, so for me automatic promotion is unlikely now. Most likely we'll be in the play offs.
How we do will depend a lot on injuries and workload. If we have our key players regularly performing at their best, then we're fine. The problems start when they're unavailable or tired. I thought we saw some of that last night. Last season Larin would have been rotated out for Stewart to start this game. That kept them both looking fresh.
So not a disastrous window, but not what we really needed in such a critical season. If we don't get promotion this year we lose the parachute payments and the squad will get worse again. Hopefully we will get automatic promotion, but I suspect it'll be the lottery of the play offs again. | | | |

We barely laid a glove on the Brummies in the second half last night. Only Matsuki seemed to make us more competitive.
You have to wonder why we never signed another more mature CB. And what on earth we were doing offering 9mil for Charlton's 19 year old striker at the end of the window. Surely we should have used that money to guarantee striker reinforcements, like David Connolly back in the day.

It’s too early to be too critical of the squad.
Transfer windows are a bit hit and miss and can be distrupted.
When Larin arrived who would have thought he would turn out one of best signings we have ever made.

That’s what I think , we should finish in the top 8 but a lot of teams , especially towards the end of the season, could put run together and sneak in.
We are weaker at the back and are weaker up front and that could cost us 8th place if we are not careful. If we do have some money to spend in January ( and I’m not certain we do) then both positions would need to be addressed.
On that note why did we send 22 year old Quashie out on loan and replaced him with 20 year old Abbott. Seems another gamble by the club .
