| The Eckert Effect? 07:48 - Oct 25 with 1248 views | templarinexile | In my many decades of supporting the Saints, I can't recall a more inspirational manager than Tonda - perhaps Lawrie, Strachan, Ball come close but I feel Tonda bests them all. For example:- Jack Stephens, in my opinion much maligned in the past, is now consistently turning in strong perormances and making a major contribution to a good fun of results. There is no doubt that he is a loyal team player and is passionate about SFC - he also always gains the respect of the various managers that he has played under (more respect than is given him on this platform!). I would guess he gets the same level of trust in the dressing room and his loyalty admired. I've viewed him as a player with plenty of talent, but his play can sometimes be ponderous and he is unfortunately prone to the (too frequent) howler. I hope I'm not jinxing him, but he seems to be playing the best football of his life under Tonda - a revelation. And I think the same may be said of JWP. The pics of them, and the whole team. at the end of the WH game speak volumes. | | | | |

True Despite all the pearl clutching during the summer everyone has seen the results achieved under Tonda and other chairmen won't give two shits about the "spygate" shenanigans I like really Tonda and am pleased that we got the decision we wanted from the FA after sticking with him but he'd have to get us promoted before being compared to Nigel Adkins, let alone Lawrie Mac who it would take something truly remarkable to usurp his position of Saints greatest manager

| The Eckert Effect? on 10:09 - Oct 25 with 836 views | SonicBoom | I like him but hes not the best manager we've ever had. Let's keep some perspective. For a start u cant compare Premier league managers we had with those that only managed in the EFL. Its clearly a much harder job. Let's also not forget that Tonda also cost us out chance at the PL last season. We cant just gloss over that. Also he is yet to put in these performances every week. After the Bolton game I dont recall any glowing references. But... he definitely has something about him the players respond to. He seems distant but clearly gets his message across well. It will be fascinating to see what he can do if we get to the Premier and i hope we back him. I also think hes unlikely to jump ship the moment a bigger club comes calling. Hes doing a fine job, but he still has plenty to prove. | | | |

It's true that we have had a few excellent other managers in the past, who did well in the Premier League etc. Koeman was a particular favourite of mine. However, Tonda has transformed the feeling at this club, transformed perfomances, transformed players attitudes, transformed our aspirations more impressively than I have seen before. Tonda is a fanatastic manager. Fans singing his name in the streets, in the toilets, at the tube station, in the stadium. He has united this club again, one man. I have never seen such passionate chanting of a manager's name, even under good managers in the premier league, because never has a manager quickly turned around a sinking ship since he came in, into a real force that win games. Remember everone moaning about Azaz, Manning, Stephens, Bree and recently Dobbin. No problem, Tonda turns them into super stars. Everyone worried about the team selection at Norwich. No problem, Tonda's here. Worried we had our two best players put yesterday - no.problem. We still win. The enjoyment is back. We win big games. Beating the skates, beating Arsenal, beating West Ham away. And the spygate situation. Blame the f@cking EFL. A totally disproprotionate punishment for a man standing in a public place with a phone, something anyone one of us could do legally at any time we want. And had Will Still stayed, we wouldn't have even made the playoffs last season. We only got there because the incredible Tonda Eckert won 10 games in a row, with the best win rate ratio a manager has ever had at this club. And yes, you're right let's see if and when hopefully we get promoted. But I have never been so hopeful that under Tonda, we would stay up and guve the PL a real go. And ask yourself why Tonda did the spying? He did it because he is so f@cking desperate for our club to win and to be successful. He is insanely intense about ny club being successful. That is good enough for me. [Post edited 25 Oct 12:39]

| The Eckert Effect? on 15:04 - Oct 25 with 421 views | StAnt | JWP and Jack Stephens both commented that Tonda started the week by telling the squad we would be going to West Ham to win the game. He also identified that they are slow starters and had the team on the front foot from the first minute - we caught West Ham cold and scored two quick goals to set up the win. | | | |
| The Eckert Effect? on 15:20 - Oct 25 with 388 views | kingslandstand1 | As has been said, Tonda needs to perform consistently in the Prem to get all the accolades, particularly best manager. Think of the plaudits we were getting, deservedly, under the Koeman era and success in the Prem (for us), and WGS didn't do too badly However, there is hope and particularly it seems unity and a def bonding in the camp which can only be a good thing As for Jack, you cannot deny his commitment to the club, let's just hope those few games he missed made him realise he's not guaranteed a start. He's certainly played well since that break. Just no more c0ck ups please | |

99% right with your comments. But great Managers also need to be Lucky Managers. Tonda is undoubtedly a very talented motivational coach. He was lucky that he wasn't sacked & we are also very lucky to have him. Let's give some Credit to Spores for recognising Tonda's talent & for promoting him to 1st team coach & sticking by him during the ridiculous Spygate episode. So the missing 1% is the element of luck needed to be successful.

I think great managers make their own luck and don't allow excuses. Last week, we were very unlucky not to be awarded a penalty against Bolton but you just move on and get on with it, making sure you win the next game. Yesterday we arguably rode our luck but it all evens out. Tonda was "unlucky" when we went down to 10.men against Pompey.when one of his players made a mistake. But Tonda's team battle like they are in a war. That mentality comes down to the manager. So refreshing to have a winner as the manager after years of poor performance and disapppintment.
