Block 1 13:14 - Oct 17 with 2177 viewsSaintNick

Looking at it from across the pitch, the closed block 1 doesn't take that much oiut of the ground and atmosphere, it might be a good solution as it has created a bigger buffer zone and most just appear to have moved into block 2 so not far away

In all seriousness, I don't think it helps the atmosphere at all.

A few hundred more in that corner definitely helps to drown out the away fans.

As I now don't go to home games because of this issue, I watched the whole game on a stream and all you could hear was West Ham fans pretty much through the whole game, even just after we had scored.

That may be reflective of the general doom and gloom amongst the fanbase, and our fans expecting us to concede a goal at any time in the game, but closing Block 1 most definitely does NOT help.

It doesnt help, of course it doesnt just from the point of view there will be less fans in the area, but the reality is it is only a small block closed and the same people minus of course yourself can make just as much noise from only a few yards to the left.

It isn't a block that makes atmosphere it is the people who are in it.

they could fill Block 1 with away fans who would obviously not be aggressive to the Northam away fan Kop

Why haven’t they taken 300
Off of the away allocations to create a buffer?

Because there are PL rules around the number of away tickets that have to be given.

As I’ve said on another thread, I have no big issue with them putting a wall up.

Would be far better than having a block of empty seats.

We give 3200 to away fans.surely that’s enough. According to an article last week we are 18th in table for best away days for travelling supporters.find this hard to believe as away fans seem to have freedom of the city and prime seats .wolves interestingly was somehow 7th….

It’s 10% of capacity in the Premier League, but there’s a 3000 cap. We give 3200-3300 I believe, which is 200-300 more than we need to. We are one of the very few clubs that give more than is required.

It’s presumably because of the hundreds of missiles aimed at them from Block 1, yes?

Our fans are moved time and time again around the ground,OUR GROUND.This is damaging and demoralising the fans.We must as I am sure you are tired of hearing me say have a home end at the Northam where they would not suffer losing their places so regularly.Saints fans are as passionate as any in the country, this is often seen at away grounds give us a chance at home , you never know the team may even respond. ,

I think there will be issues with putting a wall up from a sight point of view from the away section, I havent sat there so just speculating but I think a wall might block the sightlines, meaning that we would have to move people in the Northam end to accommodate the away fans who would need to be shuffled over

I would imagine it would be more of an issue to those in Block 1.

Not that I normally go to a game expecting to see much goalmouth action with us on the attack.

The view would still be perfect from the away end, can’t see how it would be impacted.

Instead of putting up a full height wall, would it not be better to put up a low wall as a solid base for a full height perspex / safety glass screen that goes right up to the underside of the roof of the stand? Reduce the away allocation to the mandatory 3,000 and in the last vertical line of now empty seats nearest the screen we could implement the revolutionary idea of actually putting some stewards in place to stop any herberts who decided to try to come over to it and gesticulate at our fans or even try to kick the screen. Nobody could throw anything at anybody else on either side of the divide and everyone would be able see.

Perspex is not only tough but is also see through...mid level wall and top with perspex...can act as a large covid sneeze screen too.
