Can’t only find one thing on Brighton getting Vitinha, so not too sure about that, and even then it’s down to who the player prefers by the sounds of things.
And with Dembele, well by the looks of things he’ll barley be playing at Lyon, so as much as we’re not doing well, the club should just tell him/give him some sort of deal allowing him to leave in the summer if we do go down. As that’ll be why he’s got any doubts, but if we offer him something like that then it’s a win, win situation, as if he does great and we stay up well he still gets to play prem football, and if we go down and other teams want him then he’ll be allowed to leave.
But if we don’t sign ether of them, or anyone equivalent, then yeah we do deserve to go down as we’ve had this number 9 issues for over a year now, and as it’s shown, we’re not like City where we’ve got winger and midfielders good enough to score enough goals to make up for it, so if it still can be sorted after 18 months then yeah we should go down. |  |

Ankersen has fcuked up royally.
He had a working relationship with the Genk striker, and should have got the deal over the line before Everton got Dyche in, as he was always going to be his type of striker given his height.

The fact of the matter is that a decent centre forward should’ve been brought in last summer. Along with not sacking Ralph last May, and subsequently appointing an unproven manager at this level, it is that fact that will see us relegated. SR are now scrambling about on the final 24 hours of a January transfer window looking for a life belt. We are clearly a much less attractive proposition now being bottom of the league making it much harder to get a forward in. I’ll be surprised if we get a decent deal over the line today. |  | | |

Is it always the agents who leak the stories that Saints are about to sign players or do sources inside the club think that such stories will appease the fans as the club can say, at least they tried? It seemed to work for them in the last transfer window as much was made of the stories that they tried to sign Gakpo and Goncalo Ramos.
Let's face it, these stories, which usually generate a feelgood factor among the fans, have just about got them through another transfer window without signing the striker the fans want. [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 10:11]

It's not that they don't want to, it's just that A) They don't want to pay the going rate for a proven striker and B) Their policy is to buy unproven 19 and 20-year-olds like Mara, who they hope will have enormous sell-on value.
If I were them, I would go all-out and spend the £5 million it would take to bring Cho Gue-sung here. He's still cheap enough and young enough. The alternative would be an old-timer like Arnautovic at the end of his career and I can't see our club going down that route as there would be zero sell-on value. As for another Championship striker, I'm not sure about Gyökeres. Would he be an improvement on Adams and Armstrong or about the same? It's hard to say. [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 10:28]

I wonder if their stat computer factored in how attractive is it to play for NJ as a coach. Maybe they didn't consider this when they hired him. He's hardly going to be a big lure.

I've seen quite a bit of him and personally I think he would be. He is much closer to Broja in terms of his strength and the way he's happy to take defenders on directly (and from a long way out). He seems more accurate than Adams and Armstrong too.
But Cov have just got a new owner and it wouldn't be a good look for him for his first act to let Gyokeres go. Cov not as strapped for cash as they once were. | |
