| How long will we be out of the Premier League? 23:49 - Apr 27 with 4059 views | LondonSaint76 | Picking up on many comments across various recent threads; I think it is pretty clear that we now need a miracle of almost biblical proportions to stay up, so, here's the question - how long will it be before Saints are able to take their place at the top table again? Looking at it from one extreme to the other: * Can we do a Burnley and bounce straight back? *Or, will the Database Drongos (good old Aussie expression for idiots) drag our beloved club into terminal decline so we end up where the likes of ex-top flight clubs Swindon, Bradford City or Oldham now are? * If we can't bounce straight back, how long will we be gone? Look how long it took Leeds and Nottingham Forest to get back and equally where the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich now are - like Saints under Koeman just think how good Ipswich were under Bobby Robson for example... Be interested to hear your thoughts... From a very deflated and downhearted London-based Saint. | | | | |

We will invest in a new computer system that tells them to buy Accrington's 18 year old centre back. We will be left with players on huge contracts with PL wages that won't want to leave but will sit in the stands complaining and sulking. There is a SISU situation coming.

| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 03:13 - Apr 28 with 3884 views | Ripleys_revenge | Sadly I can’t see us bouncing straight back. In Rasmus Ankersen I think we unfortunately have one of the most delusional f@ckwits in the game, with zero pedigree other than a couple of books and ted talks about his uniquely brilliant football management philosophy. Comes across as a fraud to me and I think the myriad staff exits are symptomatic of his idiocy. It looks like we’ll be stuck with a lot of dead wood on the playing side who it will be very hard to shift. Obviously players like lavia, ABK etc will get snapped up. But there are many others on hefty contracts who other clubs wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. Our squad is incredibly bloated with some expensive signings who we signed in pure panic mode who barely play and don’t fit into any particular system. We’ve been in decline for a number of years and reversing that momentum will be very tough. When we came back up last time a lot of that was built on the positive momentum we had leading on from the league one days. This time around I fear we are at the start of that same process only we have even more incompetent people running the club now. For what it’s worth, I really enjoyed the league one / championship years although the preceding slide with the points deduction etc was less fun. I think time to accept we will be down for a couple of seasons. Prepare for a gloomy first season back in the champ, hope this is enough time for a much needed refresh and go for play offs the following year. Most importantly can the imbecile who claims that “if it ain’t broke, consider breaking it” is visionary footballing genius kindly f@ck off from our club? | | | |
| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 05:40 - Apr 28 with 3838 views | 1ASIN12 | We won’t be coming back up anytime soon. Financially we will be in the shit and will have to sell as many players as we can to help balance the books . A bit similar to last time we went down we won’t be spending much this summer and a mid table finish next season if we are lucky . Those that think the championship will be fun and we will win lots of games are going to be in for a bit of a shock . | | | |

When Wilson and Reed were here they signed a load of duds who hamstrung us financially for years. This is probably one of the biggest factors in our prolonged decline over the past 5 years. Then when we finally get some investment, we again sign a load of expensive duds. Only now we are going down, we are even less equipped to be able to handle that. And who is it that has single handedly taken over recruitment this season? Come on down rasmus NB - this is without even mentioning the jones appointment. The man’s a disaster [Post edited 28 Apr 2023 6:55]

Actually, the players we have signed most recently are all probably saleable at decent money. Even Mara has shown something and while we won’t get all our £ back for Tall Paul, he’s played so few games that his Belgium record will still give him value. Smallbone has done well at Stoke. Adams, A Armstrong and Tella have all shown they can score in the Championship. It’s not impossible, with the right manager and the right replacements for JWP and Lavia, that we could come straight back. The first year down is the one where you really want to do that. This season has been ruined by three dud managers and the management who kept/put them in place. We could and should have done a lot lot better with the players we have.

| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 08:50 - Apr 28 with 3581 views | Ifonly | It seems I disagree with everyone about relegation and promotion. I've been saying since early in the season that we'd go down this year and put a bet on just to cover season ticket money. Meanwhile certain other people have been saying how we have a strong squad and how we'd easily pull away from trouble. Seems I've been right about that one! Now everyone says we'll struggle when we go down and I disagree again. We'll lose our best players and that's a big shame but we can survive that. The main thing is that we need a decent manager. SR need to recognise they've made some catastrophic errors, including Selles but I think that will happen. With a decent manager and some experienced players we stand every chance of bouncing straight back. But yeah, if we keep Selles and if SR refuse to rebuild then it could get ugly. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 09:13 - Apr 28 with 3548 views | saint901 | For me the three key elements that need to come together are ownership/management; coaching and tactical staff; playing staff. Moving out of the Championship will need a plan in terms of which players to acquire, when and how to prioritise. The owners need to look at their portfolio of clubs and think about whether we fit thier plans and if not, they could do s a favour by selling quickly to somebody whose focus is our club. Until the ownership commits to a plan to either grow the club back into the PL or to accept that we will be a Champ/L1 side, all efforts elsewhere are pointless. The coaching and managerial staff need to either convince the ownership that they have a plan - be that a one season or a four/five season plan - which will se us competing for promotion within a given period. That begins with looking at what we have in the academy and seeing what shape the team will be in for the 2025/26 season. Identifying weaknesses and planning for contingencies (every team looking for promotion needs at least four 10 goal a season strikers for example). They also need experience at Champ level. That is a hard league to get out of and needs a style of football that many PL teams would not play. It's also much more diverse in terms of team shape and style than the PL and an ability to read the opposition and then make changes in real time is needed. For me the present crew don't have that and we should be looking for a "face" with more experience. The players need to be sorted into those willing to sign up for a 4 or 5 year campaign and those who are not. That means that any player over say 28 and with a few years left, will be looking to move on. Any player at the start of their career and with ambition to play PL now, also need to move on. I can see us losing 6 to 8 players via this route. Our academy is thin because we lomg ago lost our position as having the best talent spotting and nurturing place around and other clubs have overtaken us. It also means however that those other clubs (City, Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool) have a lot of young players (too many perhaps) and we should be looking to lean on that and take their best. We also need to be careful not to have too many loanees in the team because that is not good for building the sort of togetherness needed to get through a wet night in Grimsby when the plan is not working , we're a goal down and the ref is against us. The rebuild of managerial team will need at least a season. A new team needs two seasons more. A season for nearly making it. I can see us as serious contenders in 26/27 and in the PL 27/28 (perhaps briefly). None of this happens though without the owners being committed and they are not, they shoudl sell and give us owners who are committed. | | | |
| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 09:56 - Apr 28 with 3459 views | kernow | How long? I'm 70 years old this year and will be very surprised if Saints regain top flight status in my lifetime. What's more sad is the fact that I don't really care. | | | |
| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 10:28 - Apr 28 with 3421 views | SonicBoom | Does anyone care? If we come back up we will be back to the usual cycle. We will either be in the bottom half perennially trying to dodge relegation, or we miraculously have a good season, and then the vultures descend and strip you of your manager and all your decent players. | | | |
| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 10:32 - Apr 28 with 3420 views | DorsetIan | We should remember too that at least two from Everton, Leeds, Leicester and Forest will be coming down with us. They'll be odds on to fill the two automatic slots. | |

I slightly disagree - the writing was on the wall at the end of last season with some truly inept performances and RH looking miserable and uninterested.
| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 21:59 - Apr 28 with 3178 views | PatfromPoole | Jason Wilcox coming in from City as director of football means more of the same. More City youngsters coming in. With the very notable exception of Lavia, this policy has ultimately been a disaster. We should definitely be top 6 with the squad we will be starting the season with, but I fear we will be mid-table at best if Ankersen is allowed any part in the new manager recruitment. | |

| How long will we be out of the Premier League? on 23:46 - Apr 28 with 3110 views | dirk_doone | The team that finishes 18th, like Burnley last year, often comes straight back up; the team that finishes 20th, especially when cast several points adrift, like Norwich last year, usually doesn't. In fact, teams that finish bottom with exceptionally low points totals, like Huddersfield, Portsmouth and Derby, usually don't come back at all. The notable exception was Villa but they are a very big club. | |
