Thought it was just me re: Russell Martin…… Perhaps we could get his new misses involved with trying to bring in some PL level talent. Trust The Process [Post edited 3 Aug 2024 17:10]

If so, hopefully by end November so that the incumbent can see what he has to work with and get some movement both ways in January

As we found out two seasons ago, January is such a tough window. The only players available are dross of the standard of Sulemana, Onuachu and Orsic. We really have to do all the business by the end of August. These are undoubtedly the most important four weeks of the season for us.

I don’t think he will (I think the hierarchy will nail their colours to the mast as they say). He got us promotion and for that as I have said before, he deserves the season but I think it might prove costly.

But as has been said, that is unlikely to happen if RMis actually coming out and as such confirming the lack if further movement

Newcastle playing hard ball on Fraser could mean we get him on another loan deal, as it doesn’t look like there is a lot of PL interest otherwise. [Post edited 5 Aug 2024 8:57]

Problem with RM is that he's only ever worked with lower league players. He wouldn't know what a Premier league player looks like. If he thinks the likes of Stephen's/ Manning / McCarthy etc are good enough for the Premier League then he's either very confused or very naive. But perhaps his hands are tied by the budgetary restrictions at the club so will give him the benefit of the doubt for time being but I fear it will cost our place in this Elite league.

You do know that Russell Martin had 4 seasons in the Premier League with Norwich City as a player as well as two successful promotions from the Championship with them, so I would imagine he is well aware what a Premier League player looks like. I do have to smile when i see the frothing at the mouth because the manager has done just what every manager does and that is deny anything is happening and don't say too much until the deals are done

Of course I know RM's history as a player but playing in the Premier League is a bit different to Managing in that league. I not knocking RM at this stage, let's judge him at end of season (if he's still here). But this league will expose limitations of any player or Manager. [Post edited 5 Aug 2024 10:21]

Some of the best managers in the Premier League came in with little experience managing in the Premier League, or winning things abroad Moyes(Ok a few years ago now) Brendan Rodgers, Pochettino, Graham Potter, Mikel Arteta, Eddie Howe, Thomas Frank, Gary O'Neil, Steve Cooper, Scott Parker. You are right judge Russell Martin on what he does going forward, we can't really complain about his first year in charge

If he doesn't get a new goalkeeper before then so will we be. Martin does have a reputation for treating goalkeeprs as a low priority. I remember one of the comments on a Swansea fans' messageboard when he left them: "Now we can get rid of the cr@p goalkeepers." But, to be fair, the owners are also to blame for not insisting on getting one. It could have saved us from relegation and even if we'd got one after that, it would have won us the Championship title. Even now, it might not be too late to save us from another relegation. You really have to wonder why we are wasting so much money on outfield players when with McCarthy and Bazunu as our goalkeepers we are going down anyway. [Post edited 5 Aug 2024 10:56]

I think we all know that, but he can't come out publicly and say that, it just puts the price up if we show our hand

| Martin hoping for “one or two” signings before the Newcastle game on 11:06 - Aug 5 with 1152 views | dirk_doone | As for the attacking midfielders we are being linked with, they'll just get in the way of Dibling and Amo-Ameyaw, who combine brilliantly together and are our best hope of creating goals this season. The 4 players who should be first on the team sheet at Newcastle are a new goalkeeper, Sugawara, Dibling and Amo-Ameyaw. Dibling is the most skilful player in our squad so his age should be no barrier. Would Spain have won the Euros if they'd not picked Lamine Yamal (or if they'd had McCarthy in goal)? I agree Dibling is a talent but he needs to be eased in, a good performance in some pre season friendlies doesn't mean he is ready for the Premier League just yet, he could get caned at Newcastle and that could knock back his progress. Start him off the bench and build his confidence and get him used to what is required | |

So you are acknowledging that Eddie Howe is one of the ‘better’ managers out there? 😉
