If that happened there would be no final because we’d contest it which would tie the final date up

And then Millwall could complain that it's not fair that Boro got straight to Wembley and they didn't. Boro would have to play Millwall to see who plays Hull. Not possible to expel us. That won't happen. Too many legalities and implications.

Why would Millwall complain, it has nothing to do with them. I think we will end up with a points deduction.

I agree. Anyone listen to Simon Jordan today ?.
He said the same thing, slap wrist and big fine.
Anything else would be too much of a headache to the EFL, considering the game in question has been played with no winners.
I think Saints will go for a suspended sentence. Admitting things were done wrong and getting a lesser sentence. A plea bargain…

Looks to me like Parsons is playing the right cards...stall and faff around for another week or so to allow us time to win our next two games. At that point it will give the EFL kangaroo court a severe headache to re-write the whole playoff history by lobbing us out.

We get a pretty hefty fine but can use some of our Murdoch money to pay it.

As for Gibson, he can crawl back into the primordial soup where he belongs.

hull could also complain if they prepare for facing saints and at the last minute have to change to middlesborough. Expulsion just isn't going to happen.

Expulsion is the harshest penalty they can dish out, so should be reserved for the worst possible infringements. I don't see how this can be the worst infringement so I don't see how the harshest penalty can be appropriate.

Nobody can seriously claim that we won due to spying. We're in the final on merit. There does need to be some punishment if we're guilty but something like a big fine or a points deduction for our next EFL season would be fit the crime better.

There is a precedent set when the EFL fined Leeds £200k, the offence is not specific to the importance of the game

No, unfortunately there's no precedent. Leeds were fined £200k under 1 of the charges we're facing (basically acting in bad faith). There is no precedent for the other charge (spying) because no one has ever been charged under this rule before. The EFL introduced the rule because they decided that they wanted a stronger rule than the one they had charged Leeds under.

The wanted A rule to cover it, not a stronger one, they had nothing specific so they created this rule, yes it hasn't been tested before, but the precedent has been set for the same offence as such.

I would expect a higher fine but essentially our crime is not that much different to Leeds, as i say the importance of the game doesn't count

Middlesborough saying they have evidence of two other clubs saying they were spied on. The question is why didn’t these clubs report it and submit this evidence. They have also appointed a top sports lawyer and are reported to be in training and ready to play the final. When are tickets going on sale ? Will be an indicator when they are released.

This is probably the best thing we have going for us. Hull will complain if Borough are subbed in late on and beat them.

We have a right of 14 days to respond to the charges. I don't see there is any precedent that can supersede this. As such, we'll do and internal review, probably "sack" the individual involved (including a large, undisclosed, settlement and a bullet proof NDA), and say he was rougue and suffering from stress or something that the panel won't want to be seen to dismiss in the current politically correct environment. If this all takes place after a successful play off final it will be bery difficult to prevent our promotion and will come down to a long damages battle directly between Southampton and Middlesbrough.

One thing that is at the back of my mind, however, is that if we win the play off final and Spurs end up in the third relegation spot, does the Premier League Cabal somehow disqualify our promotion and rather than promote Hull they just don't relegate Spurs...

There is no way we are being expelled from anything, not least because of the time constraints and legal actions that will follow. I expect something in the order of £500k fine and 3 points deducted from the next time we're in the Championship.

I reckon a whole season back in the Premier League - if it follows much like the last one - is punishment enough for the club!

Probably a bigger fine - GBP 1 - 2 mn.

The EFL would have to establish some sort of minimum punishment to include ineligibiltiy from playoff partxiciation going forward for spying. This would "set the deterrent" going forward that Middlesbrough seem so keen to establish in their sanctimonious prose.

massive fines and punishments opens up new can of worms, clubs could pay off opposition staff members to do a dirty deed,I think it should just all be ignored,if you don't make you're training private then tough.

The law states under EFL rules Saints have 14 days to respond to the charges. The EFL has tried to shorten this but have no legal basis to do so. Saints are right to request the 14 day rule is applied. Therefore it is unlikely Saints will be thrown out of the final. What is more likely is the EFL fining Saints and a likely points deduction that should we get promoted may be applied to the Premier League. What is certain is Middlesborough under Steve Gibson will issue legal proceedings against Saints as he did against Derby.

Stupid sods. This could have been avoided and has tarnished the club.

If it’s found that Saints have broken the rules then a proportionate punishment is correct.
Expulsion would not be proportionate, it would be draconian.
As they were beaten fairly and squarely over two legs why should Middlesboohoo benefit?

It’s being fuelled by their imbecile of a chairman and teary manager
That said good god how stupid of us and IF Tonda was aware and/or actively encouraged this then he has a lot to answer for
I expect they will sacrifice the lamb claim stress/mental health and we will get a large fine and suspended points deduction on return to the Championship

Whether aints are guilty of spying just on Middlesbrough the punishment should fit the crime.

It’s pretty clear that whatever info was gleaned by this idiot for the Boro match didn’t affect the outcome, as for most of the first match and at least 50% of the second, Boro were the better team and were the first to score. Their fate was within their own hands but they blew it.

Allied to that, if their ‘intellectual property’ on set pieces and injuries was so very critical, why hold their practice sessions in plain view of the public? Seems like a bit of contributory negligence to me.

In short, expulsion is not an appropriate penalty but some kind of fine would be proportionate.

If the EFL gave us a points deduction for this season they couldn’t give us more than 6 points
Leicester got 6 points for serious financial foul play over a sustained period which is infinitesimally more serious than spying on a training session
If they deducted us 6 points we’d be in 5th place and Boro would be 4th so WTF

As for Gibbo suing the club, that is a bluff. Where is his evidence that his club was prevented from winning by the actions of Bush Boy...any court throws that out on day one. As for him seeking £20m as an out of court settlement (Jordan's genius idea) that ,as I said yesterday, could be considered extortion.

Gibbo missed the best chance to really f*ck with us and the EFL which would have been to refuse to play the tie until the result of the investigation was known. Having played and lost he is now taking a banana to a gunfight if he thinks we will be thrown out of the playoffs.

We take our fine and maybe points deduction. We pray Eckert isn't in the shite. We move on.

We can then do a Trump on some of those journalists asking stupid questions when they had been politely told they couldn't be answered until proceedings are over, We ban them from the pressers for a period.

Expulsion doesn't fit the crime, whatever it was, but I think a lot hinges on whether this was a "lone wolf" as the club reportedly claimed at first, or organised by someone higher up.

The photos yesterday suggested a very amateurish operation, hardly MI5, which might indicate a lone wolf. Early reports talked about surveillance equipment, but that was a load of carp. It was basically a wet behind the ears intern with a phone. OTOH, I would have expected the club to have announced he was suspended pending an investigation if he was clearly acting on his own.
