| New owner - new ground? 16:44 - Jan 5 with 4344 views | saint901 | I don't know much about Mr Solak but I hope he takes a real interest in his new acquisition. If so, can I ask that he consider moving the stadium - pretty please? Anybody coming into Sampton for a match finds the stadium an utter PITA to get to, park nearby, get out of, and leave the city. It should never have been put where it was. Instead sell the land for housing - which is what all the surrounding property is going for and use the money to build something out near the motorway. The sites near the old Transit factory look favourite to me. Easy access, good links into and out of town. A railway line ready. I seem to think that Rupert whatshisface tried to build a stadium out there and got outline permission? He then got greedy and wanted a hotel, shops, residential and the planners said no. Perhaps it would be a good time to try again and build a bigger (40k) stadium? | | | | |

Good point Bicester. Thankfully, I've still got a few jerry cans left, so I haven't had to go near a petrol station recently. On the stadium location, I'm with everyone else. I used to park at St Mary's church or at the Mosque and heading directly north after a game was pretty boring. But I have a new foolproof plan now, so it's much easier. Football grounds should be near the centre of a town or city. Drink or meal followed by a walk to the ground is what it's all about. Out of town grounds near shopping centres (The Ricoh) or in the middle of nuclear fallout zones (The Riverside) are terrible.

No mate, Mytchett Saint from .... well guess, I am in Camberley. It can take anything between 1 hr 40 mins at best to 3 hours to get to the ground. The last thing I want to do is drive to an out of town shopping centre.

You only have to look at Derby's ground to see what a horrendous location can do for a club!

I’m an out of towner and I like it where it is, if it’s such a drag don’t go, you probably leave on 83 minutes. I can’t believe anyone would really want the ground stuck in the middle of nowhere, weird

| New owner - new ground? on 18:25 - Jan 5 by 1885_SFC | You're far from that! I reckon more people travel to St Marys from out of town than actually live in the city itself... considerably more. |
As an out of towner, I'd say most of the ones I know (numerous from Bristol, Shaftesbury, Salisbury Area and London) are happy where ground is located. The majority of out of towners I know travel to games by train which is a relatively short walk to ground. others that drive to games seem to have no issues with journey or parking, which from my experience is a major issue at out of town grounds like Stoke, Reading and Bolton etc. plus where would fans go before and after games if ground is out of town as you suggest, the Bar at Southampton Airport ? The existing location for so many reasons is the right one for the majority of fans [Post edited 6 Jan 2022 7:43]

| New owner - new ground? on 08:13 - Jan 6 with 1110 views | saint68 | I was really glad the Stoneham Lane site was ignored for the Britannia Rd site, the design of St Mary's isn't the greatest but it was of the time...I only wish we'd been able to keep a closer proximity to the pitch like before at the Dell..and within 10 minutes stroll there are countless bars and restaurants for after the game..location is not an issue. | |

We are such a friendly, non judgmental bunch aren't we? Encouraging me not to go, making assumptions about when I leave, etc? My first match was 1962. I've had a season ticket (2 in fact) since 2000 - the first year I could afford one - I've never left a match early (even when I would have saved myself some grief if I had). I've lost count of the hours I've queued on the Avenue into and out of matches. I've tried trains but stopped when a drunk "fan" managed to chuck up over half a dozen people in a carriage.

I think the problem is the Avenue - not the ground's location. I live in north west Hampshire and we usually drive to West Quay and park there. The wife nips into town or the cinema and we have a meal afterwards. It's an easy walk to St Marys and you can choose your approach.

All the Romanian tanker drivers that left because of Brexit came back to Dorset thank God after a couple of weeks. There was that chap from Stoke who used to post on here, he was probably one of the furthest to travel down. I haven’t seen him on here for a while, nice chap but I think he got a bit of breakfast jammed underneath the caps lock on his keyboard. I know him and Ian were close. I hope he’s Ok.

Plus i'm a Southampton exile and i don't have a single problem with getting to the ground, train in, pint at the wagon, walk to the ground, piece of p*ss.

A very emotional and highly predictable response from the poster who obviously follows other posters to get the meaning of paragraphs written on this site. If only he could challenge his emotional energy into something worthwhile, pottery or fine art, or ballet perhaps. 'Lots' for him to consider here.
