I don't want to be horribly cruel to a kid, and maybe I'll be wrong and he'll come good, but if you're 20 years old and you're on loan at Tonbridge Angels you're pretty much done.

That could be applied to a few others that we have loaned out to 6th or 7th tier clubs.

If they are not going out on loan to L1 or 2 clubs at 19 or 20yrs then they will almost certainly be good enough for the Championship.

I am fairly certain that some of the Eze money could be used.

The Eze money has already been spent. We spent 10m this summer.

No it hasn't. Those that signed were put on 5 or 6 year deals, the spend can be offset by the length of contract.

We tried to sign Edwards in September, so money is still there. Wages will be the issue, hence players have to go.

Rumours on social media are we're looking to offload before anyone comes in. Wages apparently.
Frey, Morrison & Nardi allegedly. Smyth if he doesn't sign.

The squad does look a little bloated in areas, but, and I know this has been mentioned earlier, surely we have to move up a couple from the DS to reduce the wage bill again.

It’s typical social media nonsense putting 2&2 and getting 5.

Of course we would like Frey to leave but he’s tied down for several more years and they did that to bring his wage to a manageable level. He’s going nowhere.

Of course we would like to get rid of Nardi, but he refused to leave in the summer and will see out his generous deal until the summer.

Of course we will look to sell Smyth for a few quid if he refuses to sign a new deal rather than let him walk for free, but he won’t want to leave.

Kolli & Morgan are still the two most likely to leave in January.

Edwards was/is the last of the Eze money. The deal to sign him has been agreed since September, its note just a case of if he is the panacea in January or they use that money on another striker perhaps to get the twitterati frothing.

Regardless, the once in a generation cash input was blown on *this* lower mid table squad.

Most of the summer signings were made before Eze was sold and QPR received the sell on cash. For example, Kone was signed 10 days before. The only substantial transfer post Eze's move was Saito at £2.8m.

It would have been irresponsible in the extreme for the club to have spent money it didn't have, so there must have been a transfer fund available apart from the Eze windfall.

This "lower mid table squad" is currently 9th. Three points off the play-offs.

The Eze money has not been spent. The Kelman money has, though. The Eze money has not been entirely banked.

PS. Nutjob Ian Holloway's Swindon are second this Christmas, exactly 12 months after you assured us he'd be fired.

Yes but the point still stands that the Eze money has been more than spent.

The fact the owners are willing to invest even more is testament to their continued financial backing. Which explains why we were bidding for Ronnie Edwards.

Think Fulham were interested in the summer

Very hard to see how he would get a game in our current set up. Same with Eze if we resigned with his own money. We are absolutely stacked with quality players in those positions

Good little transfer podcast here

It came up on my YouTube and because of your recommendation, I watched it.

Can't say I agree Bosh, I eventually switched off when the bloke on the bottom right suggested a million for Frey. It's not exactly 'Hoopsa' standard I'm afraid.

Don't forget the exiles such as Žan Celar and Hevertton Santos.

Celar has no goals or assists, and Santos has one assist, but unlike Celar, he has been playing regularly, so we may be able to shift him. I suspect we would only get £500K for him though. Celar will run out his contract like Richards.

There is no way Sterling is coming here; that's hilarious. Someone will loan him like Fulham or Forest, who will pay like a mere 10% of his wages, and Chelsea will be grateful for that. They will try to force him to accept less on the loan, but now that he knows he's never going to the WC, the scum have no leverage. He's gonna milk them all the way. Justice!

If Edwards is coming then its curtains for Cook and probably JCS (which is a reality anyway for him). Also, means if we cannot convince Dunne to stay again, then we have some backup. Long term, Edwards is the buy.
Morrison is fine for a backup CB and hes cheap.

What we need right now is of course a new LB. That mythical creature that every other club has found and more than once, that we have none of. No way its RND as hes too expensive, coule be someone like Lowe from Sheff Wed. Then a Keeper.

I fear we only get a new Keeper, Edwards and another winger rather than a LB. As these lot love a good winger. Crackers this. A year on from last Jan when we knew Paal was off and we still did not get a proper LB in. And we knew Larkeche was out for a year before the transfer window closed. Really there is no excuse except we had no money which we do have so, there is no excuse.

zzzzzzzzzz

Frey is ā€˜tied down for several more years’?

Really?

What does ā€˜several’ mean?

Sounds like complete bollocks.

At least 18 months, might be 30. Sounds like they did it to spread the cost of his first contract extension (for 1 season only) that was astronomical, so as to provide more headroom on P&S this season (for other signings). He gets a bit more money overall because he’s here for longer, and we get a lower salary booked in this season, but it means he’s under contract for longer and taking up salary space next season (and maybe the season after). It was all done before they signed Burrell and Kone, when Kelman was refusing to sign, and the club were presumably worried we’d be left with no one…

That explains a lot, thanks Hunter.

I have filed it in the ā€˜best, bad decisions possible’ folder, which is rather full.

How do you conclude that: "...the Eze money has been more than spent"? If you agree there was a transfer fund used for most of the summer signings before Eze's sell on money came in, I genuinely don't understand how you get to that conclusion.

Because there is a high likelihood the club / owners knew the Eze transfer would happen. And thus fronted up initial funding for transfers. But, it’s all a matter of perspective at the end of the day. My main point, which perhaps is not clear, is that we spent a serious amount of money this summer just gone. Circa 10m. And also, last season, we spent a cool 8m. So all those fans suggesting we’ve got pots of money left ā€œfrom the Eze feeā€, will likely be disappointed. In my opinion.

Thanks for that. We see things a little differently but fair enough. I guess we'll have to wait for the annual accounts to get an accurate picture of these things.

It was quite well publicised that we had a number of bids turned down for Edwards on deadline day, isn't it fair to assume that money would still be available and hasn't gone anywhere? I wouldn't have expected those bids to be a few pennies either
