It was quite well publicised that we had a number of bids turned down for Edwards on deadline day, isn't it fair to assume that money would still be available and hasn't gone anywhere? I wouldn't have expected those bids to be a few pennies either

Yes. Agreed and mentioned this in an above post. Owners are putting in the money.

Ah okay apologies as I missed that.

There's someone on socials posting how Southampton are strongarming us for Edwards. I don't see why they would considering he's now their 5th/6th choice CB which is bizarre in itself. My gut feeling is something has to be done, I can't believe he'd be expelled from a squad based on ability

Owners can’t put in the money. With FFP we need to fund from profits or within the 39m loss over 3 seasons. Anything we spend now must be out of the Eze money. Given we sold Kelman for 3m, no way we’ve spent it all.

Outgoings... Morecambe fans seem to really like him, hopefully he can land at a team in a much better situation

Well, we spent around 10m this summer, so your maths doesn’t appear to stack up using some quick figures.

Outgoings:
Saito 3m
Kone 3m
Dembele 2m
Poku 1m
Burrell 1m
Total: 10m

Incomings
Kelman 3m
Eze fee 7m
Total: 10m

So, all in all, rough figures indicate ins and outs have been largely cancelled out.

Edit: there is of course additional headroom on top of this 39m over 3 seasons that the owners can invest if they so wish. Which given the prior Edwards bid in the summer, appears likely.

The 39 M loss cap over 3 seasons has been increased to 41.5 M for this season 25/26.

Unfortunately Saito was quite a bit more than £3m.

Thought we’d see more of you after a loss. Did you post after the Leicester win?

Our daughter has been in intensive care with RSV so I haven’t posted much at all the past month or so.

Thanks for asking though James

I didn’t know that and very sorry to hear that. Is she out of intensive care now?

Well done, Emmerson. That bodes well for the future. At his age, the National League is a very good standard and he'll learn and grow much more quickly than playing easy-osy development squad games.

If there are no league two takers for the likes of Adamson, Bennie, Smith, Akindileni and Pearman, then the club should be trying its darndest to get some of them out on loan at National League level.

You seem to forget that sales go straight in the credit column whereas purchases are spread out over a few seasons. It's the wage bill that really matters.

Punting it down the line is not a solution to where the capital needs to be found. Try telling that to the owners.

It may provide a temporary FFP solution. But it still needs to be funded, which is the main point.

You need working capital- funds- to make any kind of transfer business. Funds that do not magically grow on trees… So in and out transfer business is absolutely critical.

Christ on a three wheeled bike.
When you line up those signings and add a sprinkle of Celar, Nardi etc the club is still pissing money into the wind.

Out of your list I’d say only Burrell has been a success.
So far.

Shockingly poor return on outlay elsewhere.
So far.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Bit harsh LBlock.

Kelman was a success financially for us. Made a significant profit on very low outlay/investment.
Kone is successful. Big step up from League 1 and starting to now look the part for us, causing problems and creating very effective partnership with Burrell. Definitely would be sold at a profit at this point and certainly even greater chance by end of season if he can hot double figures and keep setting up Burrell.
Saito is also a good purchase and again will develop as a profitable asset.
Madsen, now settled is most improved player we have and now being noticed by other sides as a potential future option now he has added more physicality to his technical skills.

Others are now starting to settle under a new manager with very different approach to his predecessor.

All in all it definitely seems like an improving squad for first time in a while and notable too that the ones who haven't worked out have started to be moved on quickly both from 1st team and development squad, rather than hanging around forever like they did in the past.

Its not perfect, we are not consistent and there are still notable gaps in cover and quality, but overall it feels and looks better than it has done in 10 years.

Never knowingly understood

Very much looking forward to more of the best LfW can offer in ITK declarations and amateur forensic accountancy right up until the transfer window slams shut.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?
